Triplett 177-B military tube tester

Many months ago a good friend gave me his old Triplett 177B mutual conductance tube tester- it needed to be fixed but I figured it would be nice to have an MC tester. Another friend of mine who repaired military test equipment back in the day fixed it for me and I just got it back on the weekend. I have a couple questions I need help with.

1- The unit is probably Korean War era- I don't see 12Ax tubes listed so they could be newer than the tester was configured for so I can't figure out which sockets (if any) would correspond to those tube types. How could I determine the appropriate socket?

2- If no sockets are appropriate would I need to use a pin converter?

3- for tubes (like those I mentioned earlier) too "new" to listed in the manual, how do I obtain the test data for them? Does someone make an update card?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can't answer your questions, but,,,,, my amp tech made adaptors for my '52 Pro Amp. 6SC7s to 12AX7s. Don't think he made any mods to the amp, but really can't recall. You might try contacting the company that makes the Yellow Jacket adaptors. They may have some insight on your situation???????

thanks Jmiles- I will give them a shout.

Any suggestions on the obtaining/ deriving tube test data on the newer tubes?

"obtaining/ deriving tube test data on the newer tubes?"

No clue! Maybe ping CBG?

I have an RCA Tube manual that I would be willing to loan you. I think it was published in the late '60's so it lists the specs for any tube made from that point backward.

Let me know.

You can find Tube manual info online

Here is one example

CD, Thank you for the very kind offer- no need to lend the manual out- I am sure I can find a hardcopy one.

Also thank you jh45gun for the link- that is very helpful, maybe I don't need a hardcopy one after all!

What I am not sure of though is how to correlate the knobs on the tester to match the tube values. Sure, filament voltage is an easy one but there are L and R pots that go from 0 to 80 and two pots labeled A and B that go from 1 to 12. How do I correlate the tube data from the charts to those settings?

And bear in mind I am specifically talking about 12AX (and others) tube types that were developed after the tester was made.
