Found a cassette tape with some tunes I recorded with some friends in 1982. I was amazed the tape still played. Wanted to preserve it (more nostalgia than pride) so I dumped it into Logic and up to YouTube.

We had one mic in the middle of the living room in a small unairconditioned house in Denton, TX - in July. One take for each tune. Given that, the mix and sound isn't half bad on the first song.

This one is Icarus by Ralph Towner. Flute, mando, hammered dulcimer, and guitar...

This one is me and the hammered dulcimer player doing a Celtic tune. I don't think he saw the speed limit sign and its pretty obvious I was struggling to keep up. Kind wish I'd tuned up too, but I guess I can blame that on youth...

If you like that Celtic tune, I put the tab up here for it....

Very nice.

I have old homemade tapes from that time too.

Great to know you have something to show for the time that you devoted then.

Have you informed the other performers that you found this?

I'm sure they'd be delighted!

They both sound great. What style of music do you play now?

That's truly beautiful music, especially 'Icarus'. I don't think a recording needs to be any better than that, sounds fantastic to me.

Amazing quality and balance of instruments for just one mic.

Sounds good!

I was living on N. Locust St. and going to (then) North Texas State U. as a music major that year.

Wow - small world! I left Denton in '83. Went back a couple years ago and was surprised to see that Dallas had spread up 35E and it was non-stop metroplex where there used to be empty land. Kind of a bummer. Love that little town.
