how to add same effect to groups of tracks

I have been using reaper mostly lately, but on occasion I use Cubase as well. I have always used my DAWs very basically but on a few projects recently I have been trying some other things. Which leads me to my question:

Question is: I have 3 tracks I want to add the same reverb to. How does one accomplish this? I am not sure of the terminology for the technique to even go searching.

I come to you 'O wise masters to enlighten this poor soul.

Create an auxiliary track and put the reverb on that track.

Bus each of the three tracks to that auxiliary track. You'll have to select the same bus number for each track. And be sure to select that same bus number for the auxiliary track input.

Yup, and you set the relative level of the reverb for each track by adjusting its send level relative to the other tracks. So, if you want something to have more reverb, just bus/buss or send (sometimes called a bus(s), aux or send - different terminology for the same thing) more of it (ie it will have a higher send level) than the other track's sends. Ok, that sentence was a mess, but I think it makes sense. Hope so.

Ok, the other little thing to keep in mind is that the reverb that you have on your auxiliary track. You want to set that to 100% wet/ effect. All reverb, in other words. You then adjust the total amount of reverb you want in your stereo mix by pulling that fader up or down.

Cheers,
Geoff

Ooops! My last post was just general steps..

I don't have Cubase, but specifics for Reaper:

Click Track-->Insert new track
Click fx and select the reverb you want.
Click io on each of the three tracks you want to send to the reverb track, click the drop-down list under "Sends" and select the track number of the track with reverb.
Click the io on the reverb track and click the drop-down list under "Receives". Select each of the three track numbers you want to receive audio from.

In Cubase you add an effects track and insert your reverb on this track. In the track(s) you want the reverb on, click on the "e" button, drop down the send menu and select the effects track you put the reverb on. Here you can adjust how much verb you send to the effects track.

If I haven't explained this very well, open the Operation Manual in the Help menu and look under "effects sends" or effects tracks" and it will probably be explained much better.

Cool! Thanks for the update.

Did you try it with both Reaper and Cubase?

Only tried with Reaper as that is what I've been using most. But I've got the idea down so hopefully I can apply to Cubase when needed.

Yes, this is how it's done in cubase too and for every other app I'm sure. It's how we did it before computers.
