Any great tonal difference in mounting a bridge pup in a tele body vs. mounting to bridge.I see that all of the Tom Anderson Teles come with a hardtail bridge and pups mounted in body cavity.

Tele Bridge pup mounted stright to body cavitysudancat April 15th, 2012, 04:54 PM Any great tonal difference in mounting a bridge pup in a tele body vs. mounting to bridge.I see that all of the Tom Anderson Teles come with a hardtail bridge and pups mounted in body cavity. Teleterr April 15th, 2012, 05:31 PM You'll get varying opinions. I think theres a big difference. Hard mounts are really lively and more 3D to my ears. More wood sound comes thru. Bartholomew3 April 15th, 2012, 08:38 PM Was thinking the same thing but it may lower the p/u way too much on some set-ups. So if you don't have access to a good tech... SPUDCASTER April 15th, 2012, 10:30 PM That's how the "G.E. Smith" Tele is done also. He seems to like it. tlimbert65 April 15th, 2012, 11:16 PM That's how the "G.E. Smith" Tele is done also. He seems to like it. You know, this is something that's bugged me. I saw G.E. Smith's movie, "50 Watt Fuse," and in the beginning he's talking with Skunk Baxter about his idea to mount the pickup directly to the body. Baxter says, "It'd be great for sustain!" Why would that be? Physical vibration doesn't have any effect on a pickup, does it? The fact that the pickup is directly in contact with the vibration of the guitar's body shouldn't mean anything. It changes nothing about the way the pickup picks up the strings' vibrations. I can't see how it would make any difference in tone or sustain. Thoughts? Teleterr April 16th, 2012, 08:04 AM Heres some theory...Well, the pickups vibrating too, as well as the guitar body, and strings, w a hard mount. So, if the p/ups vibrating down while the strings going up the output would be more. If its vibrating up it w the string, less. Real world its about the same or maybe just slightly more sustain wise to me. Theres probably reinforcement of certain frequencys and harmonics and cancellation of others. Maybe that gives the 3D , livelier, slightly acoustic effect. Anyway , try it its definitely noticeable. I use brass washers for height if needed. Obviously it helps to know the height you want before installation. cleanman April 17th, 2012, 07:21 AM I really like the way the tele neck pup sounds and its in the wood so i figured whats good for the neck is good for the bridge. I do think the bridge plate is where the twang is but then andy summers has a brass plate but the pup is in the wood so I don't know anything except I like playing my tele. |
