andyroid20 April 15th, 2012, 03:20 PM So I'm thinking of making a guitar out of rosewood. Body and neck. Anyone got any ideas about a good place to source the wood from. I am in the UK. I have a relative who works for a place with a cnc machine so I can get it all machined up ok.
BritishBluesBoy April 15th, 2012, 03:36 PM No help with sourcing your wood but do make sure you chamber the body or it'll be impossibly heavy. My rosewood Tele is chambered and it's still fairly weighty.
JCJCJC April 15th, 2012, 03:45 PM Try a few of these (http://www.vanedwards.co.uk/suppliers.htm#wood).
andyroid20 April 16th, 2012, 01:20 AM Cheers. I'll check them out
Mr. Freddy April 16th, 2012, 04:56 PM I started a rosewood tele, but I used Bolivian Rosewood as it was the only one at hand in my locality, and found out after an extremely bad skin reaction followed by an emergency room visit that it looks like rosewood, and feels like rosewood, but 'taint rosewood.
If you haven't worked with an exotic and aren't sure, sand it to get some dust, wet it to a paste, and tape it to your arm to see if there is a skin reaction. My friend is finishing it up (it was going to be a gift for him anyway) as I don't wish to go to the ER again. And Bolivian is in a different family than other rosewoods.
My 2 cents..
andyroid20 April 17th, 2012, 01:21 AM Hope it don't have that effect on me. I was looking at getting bolivian Rosewood also.
dcxs April 17th, 2012, 05:59 PM Have you seen Jean Godbouts take on a rosewood Tele. It looks pretty nice. You can check it out here http://jeangodbout.com/rosewood/telecaster.htm

That's very nice.
OpenG Capo4 April 19th, 2012, 08:00 AM , and found out after an extremely bad skin reaction followed by an emergency room visit .
Yeah I got a splinter when I did my Bolivian neck. Hurt like crap for several days.
Skin irritation aside, its nice stuff to work with.
otterhound April 19th, 2012, 08:40 AM If you are wanting to stay true to the original rosewood Tele , you will be wanting Indian Rosewood , heavily chambered and some maple for the body .

That is the way it came from Fender . Those strings are long gone and it is properly strung .
I will not send it to you , but if you are ever in this neck of the woods , please look me up and I will let you spend some quality time with Rosie .
I must warn you that she will break your heart remorselessly when you have to leave her .
Just like AC/DC's Whole Lotta Rosie , this girl is a bit on the heavy side , but she will rock your world .
