I've always wanted a Tube Screamer but is it a waste to replace my MXR Classic Overdrive (green Guitar Center version) for one? Are they essentially the same tones? Thanks

Will this be a big difference from my MXR ? bunny 7 April 16th, 2012, 11:02 PM Kinda hard to say, Might be worth a listen to see if the TS9 sounds good to you in comparison to what you already have. Not sure if you've seen this thread, but it might help you decide. Hope it helps. http://www.tdpri.com/forum/stomp-box/214475-mxr-classic-overdrive-m-66-a.html Chiogtr4x April 16th, 2012, 11:08 PM I have owned a TS-9, a modded TS-9 (with 4558 chip), (2) other TS-9/TS-808 types, an SD-1, and the MXR Classic Overdrive too. I wanted to try them all out and IMO I think they ALL sounded very similar in that they are all Tube Screamer types... I personally preferred the MXR Classic OD over many as I like the increase in Gain that is available. If you like the MXR C OD, enjoy it and save your $$!! Saljam April 17th, 2012, 05:44 AM Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it. Chiogtr4x April 17th, 2012, 11:36 AM Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it. Sure! I know 'virtual fights' can start over this, but it's just been my experience (and as you can see I really have tried quite a few affordable TS's out) that they all sound very similar-I did not know that until I bought 7-8 of them, expecting dramatic differences, or something... So I'm just saying once you find a TS you like, save the $$, and get another style of OD, or another effect  edit: I am definitely guilty of switching pedals in and out (for gigs) for the 'flavor', or just like the way they look- but IMO, when we are talking 'utility' in a gig situation, I think a Tube Screamer is a Tube Screamer Saljam April 20th, 2012, 01:33 AM I've been down the affordable TS path. First a Bad Monkey, Next a BBE Green Screamer, now the MXR Classic OD. I will probably end up with the new TS reissue (I guess I like the looks!!) telerocker1988 April 20th, 2012, 09:52 PM The 30th anniversary is my favorite TS of all time.. It's very nice. Highly recommended. |
