adkima00 April 13th, 2012, 10:42 PM Hi Everyone, I've searched here and with google and didn't find a definitive answer. When looking at an octal socket, the notch separates pins 1 and 8. However, which is pin 1 and which is pin 8? When looking at the socket, on the lug side, is pin 1 to the right or the left of the notch?
Thanks in advance....

Right the first time.

Never heard that one before, I like it.
For me tubes are clockwise.
hackworth1 April 14th, 2012, 05:20 PM From the perspective of the amp builder, tube sockets are pins up, holes down. From this vantage point, tube sockets are clockwise numbered.
However, from topside, where the tube inserts into the socket, the pins are numbered counter-clockwise.
Indeed, right the first time.

Verified independently about the socket numbering. I wonder why the ceramic numbering was wrong? Oh well, live and learn...

This is a horrible aside, but you just reminded me of the awful HBO documentary titled, "Pimps Up, Hoes Down". Um, that is all.
Sorry you had some setbacks BluesH!! Get 'er dun (as the crimson cervicals in my part of the world are fond of saying)

Crimsom Cervicals?!?!
My big brother lives a few miles from you, and indeed he probably should wear a baseball cap backwards (BBC) to protect, well, 'back there' from too much sun.
