Pay Warmoth $75 or??

I'm about to order my 1st ever custom replacement Tele neck, but to help cut costs (and pay for more bells and whistles) I think I'll finish it myself.

I've used StewMac aerosol finishes before with acceptable results so I thought I'd get a couple or three spray cans for about $10/each. I also used their brush-on clear gloss finish on my 1st build but it seems they don't sell that product any more.

Any thoughts, comments, directions, good ideas I should consider?

Thanks in advance

$10 vs $75 should be pretty easy to choose. You can also get Watco or Minwax lacquer at HD. Tru-oil is also a nice finish.

I've used (and still use) Mohawk aerosol nitro toners and clear....so far, so good. Cans run about $6 each and come in a variety of colors and they're ridiculously easy to use and correct.

All good suggestions. You can also get shellac at most HD stores, I've been having a ball with that stuff recently. Dries fast, smells nice, non-toxic. Yeah, it's not so durable but I'm not that durable these days either.

RE: your sig - "I made more $$ gigging in the 70's than I do today, and a dollar went a lot farther back then."

I played as a full-time job back in the 80s, and it wasn't poverty-level living either. Can't see how anyone could pull that off nowadays.

T-O looks and feels good, and a bottle will do a few necks and costs less than 1 can of StewMac nitro.

Yeah I don't think you can, not that I would discourage anybody from trying if they didn't have other obligations already...BTW, you made me check my math and despite what think I remember, it is mathematically impossible for me to have been gigging in the 70's. The earliest I could have been doing it is 1981. I have updated my sig accordingly

You can try some tru-oil... I tinted a neck amber with colortone dye from stewmac and then used the tru-oil over that....cheap,quick and easy.
