Havent posted a lot over the past year, but I still lurk!

Just wanted folks in Albuquerque to know that after eight years as a duet, my improv duo Sama Duo recruits a bass player, changes its name, and is about halfway through recording a new CD.

We'll be introducing the new lineup, previewing the new material, and shooting video and stills for promo work on the CD.

What does it sound like? Arabilly. Country and Eastern. Indofunk. Jazz. World. Jam. Music to help you Pray For Brain.

Think 70s era Miles Davis, Chet Atkins and late Coltrane playing with the White Stripes and Isaac Hayes on a Calcutta rooftop with a bird's eye view to Morocco. Johnny Cash and Bengali icon Rabrindranath Tagore may sit in, too.

On a Friday the 13th to boot! How cool is that? Come one, come all!

Outpost Performance Space, 4/13, 7:30 pm, $10/$5 students and seniors.

For gear geeks, I'll be playing a Gretsch Country Club (the Samick archtop in the pic as backup) and a fretless Tele into a stereo rig.

thanks for the interest!

Here are some rehearsal clips from last fall:http://www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/3505807

Here's some review roughs from the studio sessions for our upcoming CD. These are raw, quick dumps they burn for us so we can hear what on earth we just did,lol - we dont spend studio time listening to playbacks. No fixes, mixes, punch ins, etc yet., so please bear with the occasional clam. I'll be punching in a few fixes on the heads here and there later, but these are some basic takes we were settling on; but know that we're prepping for the show, we'll probably start from scratch, lol!

Circus http://soundcloud.com/norumba/circus0311b_premix This just gets wackier and more fun every time we do it

EmDee http://soundcloud.com/norumba/emdee0315composite_premix I did a test edit of two takes on this one. Funkish jam with a sparse head in three phrases that get sequentially longer. Each phrase gets repeated about twice before moving on to the next one. Solo starts over vamp around 2;26; switches to a 7/4 swing feel with a touch of rockabilly vibe around 3:36.

Mist http://soundcloud.com/norumba/mist0311b_premix This is on the fretless Tele -- one of our more atmospheric and abstract pieces.

Enjoy!
