Should I refinish my 89 Standard Tele ? It has a big chip in the paint, but that's not realy why I want to refinish it. I would like to go from black to blonde. I've always loved blonde Teles, and I think it would look great with the aged white pickguard. Should I go for it, or should I leave it original ?
BTW, the electronics aren't original. It has a different bridge pup, and has a TBX non-active tone control added. I didn't do these mods, I got it that way.

The TBX is stock for that model. My 88 had that from day one. I don't think out will be of serious collectibility but 70s fender guitars were once worthless so who knows. I refinished my cu 24 Paul reed smith so I'm not a good person to give advice on this.
In the end its just a guitar and its you're guitar do what you feel. Be prepared to see some not too attractive wood. Of its an opaque finish it probably won't be top grade wood.

It's a roll of the dice. You might something really nice under that paint or it could be nasty. Worst case you paint it black again. It would be alot easier and probably not much more expensive to find a blonde body instead of refinishing it.

I like the black myself always have. I like the vintage sound not the vintage look, I dont care about battle scars
