I tried to get The Outerspace Band for my wedding in 1980, and got a one-time only band with 3 members of Outerspace and friends, fronted by Wailin' Dave Robinson. They played this tune, and they played it very well.

Nice clip.

What a band indeed. But as great as the soloists are i think Emory Gordy Jr. gets the gold star as groovemeister here...that's not your parent's bass line!

And that would be Albert Lee on that blond guitar.

Looking at the hair, stance and where he has the guitar I'd take bets that it is Albert Lee.

Guaranteed it's Albert Lee, but c'mon, who's lookin at him with Emmy Lou there ?

Rodney Crowell

Edit: Wait! You weren't asking who was looking at Albert in the video, you're saying with Emmylou there who's looking at Albert Lee. Missed that the first time I looked.

I can't even hear it good. I get too much steel in with the guitar. Besides, I can't tab. I'll do a video if I can get a clearer audio of the song.

Of course, it's Albert Lee. He was in the Hot band when they recorded Luxury Liner in the late 70's.

God I looove her! Can't help it. Great musician, beautiful and just plain ol' great.

Albert Lee is pretty kool huh? Brad Paisley learned it all at his knee.

My daughter and I danced to this song at her wedding, and tried to do the scene from Pulp fiction with the hands moving past the eyes etc...daughter did great, I kept my day job.

God I love Emmy Lou, she is tops.

So who was in the Hot Band right after this - say 1980 ?

I was working at an outdoor shed (ampitheater) the summer of 1980 and Emmylou and the HB came but I was stuck working back gate, saw no one, and just heard her over the hill.

Was it Skaggs at that point ?

Albert is using a b-bender on this tune.

Well, just watched it close and Albert isn't playing his bender on this vid.
He had a Starlicks video where he showed how to play the solo for this song on a b-bender.

NIIIIICE...love that, I saw this band in San Luis Obispo, didn't know Albert Lee was in it...nice licks to study. I have her picture that I ripped out a songbook still on my garage wall...oooh baby

I got what I would do figured out, but it is so hard to hear who's doing what between the steel and the Tele. The guitar is the lower part but it is still hard to hear because they are basically in the same register and the tones are similar. If Albert was using his signature quack sound I could hear it a little better. I'll try to get a vid posted tomorrow and see what you guys think.

jbmando,
very cool, thanks! I have been playing the super high 'steel part'... what you put together helps me think of how I'll put both together for a hybrid solution... we don't always have a steel player... so, I need to have both parts in one (or an approximation)...

We do this in my band, piano solo then I do a double stop type of solo, seems to work ok. Love playing a song that sounds so great with only 2 chords. What a writer chuck Berry was.
