Hey guys, I have a RW tele which I installed a set of suhr T pickups into, those are very nice pickups but are not really what i'm looking for, they are kind of too "tame" and miss that vintage natural sound, even the tex mex pups they replaced had something more natural about them.

So "woody" sounding pickups is the best way I can describe what I want in tele pickups, also important that the neck pickup will be clearer sounding.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks!

o.c duff plankster bridge pickup has a great woody tone to my ears. the Tall boy neck pickup is very clear and full sounding.

That woody tone is dependent on the guitar. If the guitar is new green wood, and covered in a quarter inch of polyurethane (plastic) finish then it's going to be hard to get a real woody tone.

If you want that natural nice woody tone, and you've got a guitar body that can produce it then any traditional low wind pickup will allow the guitars natural characteristic and tone to shine through.

My guitar is a roadworn with a thin finish and sounds pretty damn woody unplugged. Any traditional low wind pickups you recommend?

I like the Vintage Vibe Charlie Christian for a woody tone.

I find the Fender Texas Special set to be woody, especially the neck. And that's in a MIM Standard !

the best thing i can think of is get a vintage dermond pup from a gretsch or harmony and slap it on there. there are vids on youtube that show em on teles.

I have a newish 2004 guitar covered in about half an inch of poly and I get a real woody sound by using Flatwund strings into AVRI '62 Custom pup A3 magnet in the bridge, and a stock A5 MIM pup in the neck. output is pretty lowthe bridge, about 6.5K or something , neck pup output is higher. but it's really the Flatwound strings that give me that "woody" sound.

The woodiest, most organic sounding Tele set I've ever tried are the Budz 42 & Tall set:

BvdANymq7I4

I had these in a MIA DeLuxe, but ended up going to the 542 bridge for a little more edge on the bass strings. Excellent pickups, and super guy to deal to deal with.

Voodoo te50 is described as being "woody". I have it in my pinecaster. Very raw vintage tone. Its badass. Pricey though. Voodoo also makes a taller magnet version of the neck pickup which is supposed to have a nice fat clear Strat like tone. I've never used it, but I don't think you can go wrong with anything made by voodoo.

I have a lollar firebird neck pup paired up with the te50. Fat, clear and beautiful. These are my two favorite pickups I've ever owned. Versatility to the max.
