Just by chance I re-visited the Zoom homepage since I don't-know-when and found the firmware has been updated.
Nice and easy install

Released as following function update and bug fix version.

1. Added USB Audio Interface function.
2. The starting time is shortened.
3. Added the File Recovery function that restores broken data caused by power-off while recording.
4. Skip date/time setting menu after 10 seconds with no operation.
5. H1 freezes at the end of a recording in MP3 format in rare cases.
6. Some PC software can not recognize the mark created by H1

Have you used this to record via USB directly into your computer yet? I've been trying to find out what it's like but the firmware update is so new that nobody has posted anything about it yet

Well, I haven't done any serious recording into multi-track project yet - only tried the old "one, two, check" testing into 2-track Sound Forge and Samplitude.
it shows up in the devices menu as 'H1 Microphone' and seems to work well.
the rec-level can be adjusted at the mic, as if you're using it alone.

also interesting to see how the Lo-cut' and 'auto level' switches work in real time when you have a spectrum analyzer.
