My SRV cover

Five years ago, I started playing guitar again after a 25-year layoff. It has been really, really hard. I can't tell you how many issues I had with my hands in terms of strength, flexibility, tightness, cramping, and pain. After a couple of years, I formed a blues trio with two students on bass and drums. I appreciated their willingness to get together and try things, but we had problems. Last year, I found two guys my age who enjoyed getting together a couple of times a month. We try to do more, but our schedules are problematic. We finally did our first gig tonight, a 4-song set. Here is our version of SRV's "So Excited." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDJ2TXFQbG0&feature=youtu.be

I'm playing an Epi dot that TDPRI's kokotele fixed up for me. One thing that I really appreciate is the beveled glass he used for side dot markers, which make it easier to see. He also put in a varitone, some '57 humbuckers, coil splitter switch, and a bypass all pots switch. The amp is a Tiny Terror and the speaker is a Celestion (I forget which) 12" in a Vox cab. Also, Zendrive 2 and MXR Carbon Copy. The bass player is using that Solid brand cable that I mentioned in a recent thread. Not that you can hear the difference, but that's another story.

This is a good one, Larry...your playing sounds more "in the pocket" than ever, and I love the fact you covered an SRV song without resorting to a bunch of bombastic "SRV-ism's" over the whole thing.

Nice groove and feel!

I would watch more of your videos on a regular basis, but I refuse to subscribe to a particular Belief System.

(That's a joke, son!)

These guys are better players than the students you were playing with..and yes, your playing is more "in the pocket". Having a steady drummer that doesn't play herky-jerky helps.

He also has a sense of how and when to vary ride cymbal and hi-hat sounds to make the drumming dynamic and musical.
