Another Shellac question...

How long should I let Shellac cure on a maple neck before I spray Nitro over it? I have heard many different suggestions. Just want to know what you all think

One coat probably a couple of hours. Multiple coats will take longer to dry, in any case I would let it dry overnight to be safe.

What Shepherd said. I've done several necks with straight shellac and the finish has held up at least as well as nitro. You could just spray a few coats of shellac, level the finish and polish it out in a single day if it's warm. Nitro takes forever to cure.

Some people think it takes years and is ongoing but the majority of it happens during the first couple of months. About a month till it gasses off and you dont have to worry about the finish sinking too much, depending on the temperature, etc.

I've got a Nitro finish curing out. It's been over a week and I can put a fingernail imprint in it, and it self levels in a day or so. The finish feels hard, but it's still quite fluid.

But you don't have to wait for the nitro to cure when putting on multiple coats correct?

No, just wait a couple of hours between coats.
