Hi all
Great forum. First time here. Lots of good reading! I have been listening to this great Merle haggard album and am engrossed by the opening lick on the title song. I can't seem to get it down. It's pretty simple, but any one out there got it? Also anyone no who it was? Doesn't really sound like burton. Thanks in advance!

It actually might be Merle hisself, very simple. He has a pretty distinct phrasing style that really burrows into the sound.

Which version are you liking to work on?? I like this one..

A working man cant get nowhere today always reminded me of Rambling Fever's phrasing.

Hey thanks!
Yes, definitely the album version. Figures it was Merle. That makes me like it even more. No fluff, here is exactly what I have to say. And I am not afraid of space. So yes, I just don't have much of an ear for leads, and sometimes I can get 'em but I'd like to not fake it on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, maybe if I show what I've been hacking out someone could tell me how wrong it is, and the right way to play it. That youtube video is a super efficient way to listen to something over and over, but by god it should be a legislated crime to listen to this stuff on mp3s. If I'd first heard this on youtube, no way I'd of appreciated how great all of it is. Well:
