Small Blues Pedalboard?

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on starting a smaller board for my blues playing with a Strat. Maybe a delay, OD, wah and amp reverb?

I use a pedal train mini with a tuner, comp, od, and delay. They're a little pricey but they're my favorite board because your can stash all the wires through the grate and hide them which agrees with my OCD ;)

Stevie Ray Vaughan was very simple:
Wah
Ibanez Tubescreamer
Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face
Octavia

I don't know if it's the SRV sound you are looking for but this is definitely a great rig, although you most likely aren't going to get an Octavia the Voodoo Lab Proctavia is a great pedal that imitates it.

The standard blues stuff is a wah, Fuzz Face, tubesreamer, reverb

Original crybaby is the way to go! They litter craigslist too, you could get one for 40$ any day. But if you keep your eyes peeled for a week you should be able too get one for 30.

There is so many "blues style" sounds... If you want wah-od-delay, I believe, that wilson wah, barber OD (up to your taste) and mxr CC would be nice.

I already have 14 pedals on my board, I just want to downsize for blues gigs. I play a mix of chicago/texas blues. I already have a CC, crybaby, amp reverb and I might get a VFE blues king. Would that get it done?

My two cents- don't forget to include 'just' the guitar>amp tone!

the standard OD's,Trem, Delay pedals, are a given and necessary, but a clean tone should be part of the palette too. Great as well, IMO for keeping a guitar player on his or her toes as far as developing and articulating good technique (vibrato, phrasing, chord playing etc.), plus it's just good to remind a player what guitar>amp (naked!) just sounds like.

Dang...I knew I forgot to bring something to my gig Saturday night. Just couldn't get any decent tone just from my pedal board. Next time, I'm gonna bring my guitar and amp, too!:lol:

Seriously, good point Joe - if you can't get a decent tone just from your guitar and amp, the starting point is not to get pedals but to get a decent guitar with decent pickups into a decent amp.

Well this is perhaps a different thread all together but many guitar players equate blues playing very narrowly: It's SRV, Hendrix, a "Clapton era", or now say Joe Bonamassa or Mayer... and there is just so much more depth, acoustic and electric playing that either clean or distorted was just guitar>amp. John Lee Hooker, Wolf, Bloomfield, Allmans, Otish Rush, BB King, and even more recent players like Ronnie Earl, Hollywood Fats, Dave Alvin, Jimmie Vaughan, Kid Ramos- just plug in, don't worry about the minutia, and play!

I use a Les Paul or Strat with my DRRI. It breaks up just right and has reverb and tremelo already. If I must, it would be.....Tuner,Tube Screamer. If I added the delay, wah, chorus. Its back to pedalboard. However, nowadays, I use a Boss Me-70 for most of my low volume playing, since I don't get paid much anyway.

For me, blues is just a guitar, an amplifier, and (maybe) a low gain overdrive.

I just use a Marshall Bluesbreaker II, and a TS-808 clone for when I want to be a bit more agressive.

My pedal board for blues with a strat or a tele consists of an Xotic EP Booster. I bought some low gain ODs and they are fine, but decided the EP was all I really needed.

Why two tremolos?

It has to with fact that I like two different wave function.

Plus I don't have to bend down and change the setting either.

I have a vintage Rat I've never even plugged in. I always figured it was a rock pedal.

At lower gain settings (less than 12:00) it's a pretty good overdrive, with a different voice than other od pedals. At moderate gain settings (10:30 to 1:30) it's great for slide.

I play in a blues band. I usually bring my Boss BCB-3 equipped with a FRV-1, Blues Driver and DM-3. The FRV-1 only gets used if I'm using an amp without reverb.

Occasionally I just plug straight in.

It's a Korg Pitch Black tuner. Not very photogenic.
