Relocating tuners

I've got a set of GFS Kluson style tuners that I'm really attached to, however the low E tuner sticks over the edge of the headstock on the neck I want to use. Will moving the tuners upwards affect anything critical with the strings? I plan to move them roughly one hole up, or at least the amount of the over hang.
As a plus I will need to do a matching headstock after I plug the holes. I have very mixed feelings about matching headstocks, I regard them as garish. But it's now become a dirty little secret, painted mistress I can have an illicit affair with.
