What is a good overdrive/distorton? I want a mix between a heavy overdrive and smoother, lighter.distortion. Any ideas? Maybe an OCD?

I love my Arion Tubeulator. I have two of them. It's my go to OD pedal. I have a TS9DX, and I had a TS9, a Bad monkey, and about half a dozen others. I but I keep using my Tubeulator.

I would suggest some type of JTM45 or early Plexi type Dirt pedal. (plexi drive, VL giggity, Brute drive. The OCD a good choice as well)

Give us an example of the tone your looking for, pull up something from youtube.
I can suggest a few for you if you want.

Good luck:wink:

Well im using a Lovepedal Superlead and Boss SD1, that will be replaced by a VFE Blues King set to a.medium gain setting. The sound im looking for is Foreigner style OD/Dist.

So your saying that this pedal is going to stack on the VFE Blues king?

Probaly, but not all the time. Yes a want a "Foreigner style pedal" that will have more gain than the blues king and occasionally will stack. But it will need to have more gain than the blues king. I want a Mick Jones from Foreigner sound, but I also want it to do AC/DC style as well. The Superlead has a little too much gain for me.

Oh, that makes sense now. The best way to go is definitely Voodoo Labs Giggity. I always thought of it as an "outsider" but after trying it, the internet peoples do speak the truth!

Giggity is very flexible. I'll let the video speak:

Get a Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret for your "rock" sound, and a Zen Drive (or clone). The two stack very nicely together as well.

You could also try a Timmy (or Danelectro Transparent OD) instead of the Zen Drive for your leads.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Dirty Little Secret if you can only choose one.

You can turn down your guitar volume to "clean up" your sound. Very handy feature for both pedals.

Digitech Hardwire SC-2. Can be used as a boost or as a standalone distortion. Sounds great and it's about $107 (Can) new. I love mine.

Barber direct drive. A modded ts circuit to -almost- hit marshall territory. Thick, smooth, lots of sustain. Cleans up well.

Does hiss at high gain though.

Fat harmonics switch is handy too. Good components and hand made. Goes for around $120ish.

I love my Direct Drive!

As someone that uses a "Tube Screamer" type actually for the distorted sound it produces on its own at a moderate Drive range (say NOON-3:00 clock range) but always felt the low end was lacking when used in this manner, the Direct Drive has the mid-push with grind sound, BUT it leaves the low end alone! (or you can tailor it to do so). No boost, or mush, just natural, with a little bass attenuation to keep things tight. Also the DD, with its Drive all the way off actually produces a very nice clean boost (with very little added distortion) on its own. Quality OD:wink:

Have you looked at Catalinbread WIIO? It's pretty versatile. Super sensitive and touch responsive, and it will go from just a little grit to all out distorted madness. Worth checking out!

I was going to say a Timmy or the Danelectro TOD.

The Dano would be a good/safe starting point. Both pedals are right in between overdrive and distortion. Both sound great.
