dimarzio dp-100 & humbucker from hell

I have a chance to buy a mint set of these for $50! The only problem is I dislike the dimarzio super distortion. My friend has one in his hss strat and it does not give me the sharpness and and thud I want in a pup.

Maybe Im trying to force my ears to like it because of the price or maybe I should try something else.

Does dimarzio make a equivalent to to duncans high gain pups or bare knuckles?

I think the D activators from Dimarzio are supposed to be in the general category of high gain, lots of sound samples on their site.
