Repairing a Chinese made acoustic

A couple of years ago I bought a new, cheap Chinese made acoustic for $230. It came with a nice pickup system (with onboard tuner) and had a solid cedar top so I thought it was a good deal. Most importantly, the bridge was screwed and glued to the top. At the time I was living in Singapore which is stinking hot and humid and every acoustic of mine was having problems. I thought the glued and screwed bridge would hold tight.

About a month ago the bridge started lifting and so yesterday I undertook the task of regluing it. After removing the bridge, I could see that there was hardly ANY glue underneath it. About 20% of the bridge had glue on it. Even worse, the area where the finsh had been scraped away did not match the outline of the bridge so that the bridge was partially glued to wood and partially glued to finish. Stupidly, I did not take any photos but now I know what kind of workmanship goes into a $225 solid top, fishman equipped guitar.

Still think it was worth the money though. That Fishman system is nice!

Took a pic so you could see what I mean. You can see some pencil marks from the factory. These are about 1/4" inside the outline of the bridge. What you see now is AFTER I scraped away the finish to correctly match the bridge outline.
