Hello all,
I have a Version 2 Telecaster Plus (the 3 pup version). Here's what I'm thinking of doing with it; and I follow with a question.
I'm looking to create a 4-pickup Tele, as follows:
- Neck: Duncan Five-Two Tele pup;
- Middle: Duncan Strat Twang-Banger;
- Bridge: Ubertar Hex pup (not midi; individual mags for each string; see it
here: http://www.ubertar.com/hexaphonic/) ... Note, this will have to
get its own/new output jack...- yikes!, drilling is scary!;
- Bridge: Fishman Piezo bridge.
Here's my plan:
1) Take a blank, stock Tele control plate, drill 4 holes.
2) Each hole gets a dual concentric pot w/ pushpull switch. Pulling up on the center/volume switch turns the pickup 'on'; pushing down turns it 'off'. With this configuration, each pup can be selected, and each can have its own volume and tone mod.
3) The neck and mid pup, along with the piezo bridge pup, get wired to a TRS jack, with the two mags going to the tip and the piezo to the ring.
4) The Ubertar hex pup goes to its newly-installed jack.
5) For the Fishman Piezo I'd use the version that did not require the additional power chip - so no additional routing of the control cavity would be required... I think.
A question: I believe I've found the proper pots to use, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. The bottom ring on the concentric pot would be the tone control for the pup; the center ring would be volume, and the push/pull switch would place the pup in the circuit or not. Here is what I'm looking at:

Scroll down to the last pot... and gasp at the cost!
If you have any suggestions on this, I'd love to hear them!
So: I'd use no blade pup select switch; pulling up on any switch would activate or bypass that pup. I think I'd only have to cut one new hole in the body (for the Hex pup jack).
This would be a real project... but I think not ... too... unreasonable.
I welcome your comments/suggestions!
