Maybe they should begin with new head shots.

pondcaster April 3rd, 2012, 03:29 PM This is what we call in the biz... a really bad idea.
I love this little gem:

However, even McCartney realizes that the musical bar has been set awfully high.
“I then dreamt of being better than The Beatles,” he said. “I'm not sure if I can do that. If anything, I would love to be equal to The Beatles -- but even that's quite tough.”
Stratburst April 3rd, 2012, 03:49 PM I'll wait to hear the music before I pass judgment.
Blazer April 3rd, 2012, 03:52 PM The funny thing about this is that people have been going "They should get together and form a band." for years and now that they are actually doing just that people are going "they shouldn't do that, it's a bad idea."
People are fickle...
McGlamRock April 3rd, 2012, 03:55 PM Sounds like a performance the networks would try to put together for a music award show, like the grammies or something. Could be ok, but could also ruin all of them (as Zak Starkey seems to recognize)

Hey, hey we're the Monkees!

joelstrummer April 3rd, 2012, 04:32 PM son of a b.....eatle
LOL...
boldaslove71 April 3rd, 2012, 04:52 PM I will say this. Zak Starkey is one heck of a drummer. I was never impressed with Kenny Jones, but Starkey really nails the high energy that was missed with Kieth Moons absence.
Brad Pittiful April 3rd, 2012, 05:10 PM poor julian left out again
montanatanner April 3rd, 2012, 05:25 PM They could call themselves The Grubs

Seriously, I can 100% honestly say that I've never heard anyone say that. Ever. Not once. Not even in jest. Came as complete surprise to me... but I'm kinda out of it.
63dot April 3rd, 2012, 05:40 PM They have to be bold and break ground like their fathers. They aren't four poor lads from Liverpool but lived in West London, West LA, and Central Park so they have no back story of rags to riches. This makes it even harder for them so their music has to stand out by itself and they will always face comparisons. I have heard three of them musically and they hold their own as regular musicians but not legendary like their fathers and they seem "just OK" but McCartney is the one unknown here for me.
I am excited with the idea since I loved the Beatles so much but talent is not passed through the genes as much as it comes from intense drive and a lot of hard work. Do these guys have that drive and what real struggles have they had? If they don't make it, they will still have plenty of money and security. The only hunger I can see them having is to shut up the critics and show everybody that they are four unique individuals who would have made it on their own without famous relatives. If they fail they will be seen as a bad idea spawned from the success of a contrived idea like the Monkees. But before we go too far and cut down a band which wasn't band material (but rather a commercial or even parody) to start with, remember the Sex Pistols who were originally the house band to push the clothing of a small boutique.
barncat April 3rd, 2012, 07:37 PM I have to confess I'd like to see this happen just out of curiosity, but the expectations would be awfully high. Maybe they should just get together and jam, record a few songs and see what happens. I don't see it happening as a long term thing.
acalan April 3rd, 2012, 07:50 PM Yeah, what about Julian ? I don't think this is going to work out well for them ,There would be to much scrutiny of everything they attempt to do
Tim Armstrong April 3rd, 2012, 08:27 PM It's easy to talk about it, but I seriously doubt it'll go past the talking point. If it was really going to happen, they would have gotten together and jammed and gotten a feel for playing with each other, and only then started talking about it...
Tim
Brad Pittiful April 3rd, 2012, 08:38 PM they should do beatle tunes...pauls son singing paul songs and dhani singing george tunes and so on
Post Toastie April 3rd, 2012, 09:34 PM Hank William's legacy has continued in a small way with Jr and 3.
The Big Bopper's son is trying to do it also.
EVH's son is helping out papa.
Bob Dylan's son made a decent run.
Tim Buckley's son had the world in front of him until his tragic death.
So it is possible but very hard.
soul-o April 3rd, 2012, 09:40 PM This is nothing more than James saying something to get press to let people know he has an album out and is on tour- something George, John and even Ringo have accused Paul of doing in occasion. As a huge Beatles fan, I feel very certain that this nothing to take seriously at all. I am certain Sean Lennon and Dhani Harrison wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole.
TeleTim911 April 3rd, 2012, 09:45 PM If I was one of them no way I'd do that.
I can't imagine what expectations people would have of them. Regardless of whether you liked The Beatles or not, they brought about a lot of change in music as we know it today.
caferacer April 3rd, 2012, 09:58 PM hey Pete Best's son plays drums!
TC6969 April 3rd, 2012, 10:09 PM How long before Yoko shows up?
63dot April 3rd, 2012, 11:10 PM How long before Yoko shows up?
Maybe this whole thing is her idea.
20texas20 April 4th, 2012, 08:22 AM If it happens... more power to them. But, I find it depressing.
jefrs April 4th, 2012, 12:27 PM Hang on. Zak is a more than decent drummer, and he's the one that doesn't want to do it.
He's got enough offers of real work. Learnt his craft more form his Uncle Ernie (Moon) than his old dad. Good enough to get the job with The Who.

Zak can be a go-to drummer in more than one band. When a player is studio quality like Zak he can be like an Eric Singer who can play for a big band like KISS yet still do plenty of side work with other major acts. Zak doesn't have to limit himself with the Who since those older guys simply don't record and tour as much as they used to.
Joe Baggadonitz April 4th, 2012, 03:21 PM First, I don't believe any or all of them are serious about it but why not? Second, they are all musicians and play(ed) music independent of one another so why not explore musical ideas, forget the unimaginable expectations because of their last names for a moment and try it. Maybe they should do it incognito like Derek and the Dominoes. The only one I haven't heard play is the MaCartney's kid. If I had advice for them, forget who your dad is, be yourself and go for it.
caferacer April 5th, 2012, 10:17 PM with a little work they could be almost as good as beatlemania
JosephB April 5th, 2012, 10:34 PM they should just get pete best to play drums. give the man a second chance!
Jazzerstang April 5th, 2012, 11:09 PM I think it would be kinda cool.
