Question about changing strings (wound g)TexasTwang April 2nd, 2012, 11:25 PM Iv'e got a fender baja and when i change the strings, 10's with a wound G, how many loops should i make on the tuners? from bottom to top should i go like ive always done = 2,2,2,2,3,3? thanks:) Leon Grizzard April 3rd, 2012, 06:14 AM I thought those had traditional split shafts. If so you insert the string through the back, pull the string to one tuner past the you are going to, cut the strong, insert all the way into the hole in the shaft, and tighten. I go about 1 1/2 - 2 tuner spaces on the E and B. Some people put a bend in the string before they insert the string in the shaft hole. I just bend it after I put it in. KokoTele April 3rd, 2012, 10:15 AM The number of wraps is not that critical for tuning stability, 2 or 3 or 4 will easily suffice. You may need to increase the number of wraps to make sure you have a sufficient break angle on the back side of the nut, though. If 2 wraps has been doing it for you in the past, then I'm sure 2 wraps will work with the wound G. Mekhem April 3rd, 2012, 11:16 AM I thought those had traditional split shafts. I do two tuner pegs past and let the wraps take care of themselves TexasTwang April 3rd, 2012, 12:03 PM thanks for the "tuner pegs past" method! never tried it that way! always just guessed and never got it quite the same every time. brians356 April 5th, 2012, 06:42 PM Don't forget to shorten the G string's length, it won't intonate the same as a plain string. But you're all over that! Brian |
