Grain filler as wood filler.

Is there any reason you canīt fill holes and such with grain filler?

i fill holes with timbermate

Depends how big the holes are. Small holes you can mix it with some of the finish if thats all you have. Better to use CA glue and saw dust, less likely to shrink. Bigger holes are better fixed with a dowel.

There is a product called Kwik-Wood at Home Depot that works well even for larger holes.

And I'm not kidding about BONDO! Works great. Doesn't shrink.
