Buying a Tele Body in the Uk

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forums and am just about to embark on my first tele project build. I plan on attempting the classic paisley telecaster that so many have tried before me. My first question (one of many I'm sure) is who should I buy the body from, I have my eye set on guitar builds: http://www.guitarbuild.co.uk/product.phpprodId=40&category=6&secondary=&keywords=

which would work out at £113 with custom routing and delivery. Are there any other suggestions for around that price range that are as good/better in terms of product or service? Cheers Guys!

Hi there,
I can highly recommend axesrus.com, although I never ordered a body there - everything I ordered was great quality for a great price and they are a pleasure to deal with. Don't know anything about the vendor you're asking about, looks good, too.

It's hard to believe those are UK prices. They seem relatively reasonable - almost comparable to US prices. I guess that leaves the question of quality. Hopefully you'll find someone here who has tried them. If not, I'd ask them for references.

I recently ordered a Strat body from Guitarbuild, with customised routing too.

I dealt with a guy named Phil Marshall, really nice guy, easy to deal with. We discussed my routing requirements via email & he also very kindly selected a more interesting alder blank as I wanted to put a sunburst finish on it.

The end result is that I have a VERY nicely machined body, made from a good solid blank, with good clean, fine joints. Their pricing is keen & the turnaround, even for a custom rout was pretty quick. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another body from them in the future.

I've not purchased bodies from any other sellers, but have bought parts from all of the shops listed by jay1970 from which my observations would be:

Items from WD & Allparts are generally a little better quality, but a little higher priced. Other than that, there is little to choose. Recent orders from WD & Axesrus turned up really quickly, just like they always do. Allparts on the other hand, always seem to take a long time to ship.

Another couple of places you might try for parts later down the line are www.guitarpartsworldwide.com and www.highlystrung.co.uk., both of whom are Gotoh stockists.

I haven't ordered from them but when I did contact them, and because they are less than 60-minutes drive away, they invited me over to visit.

Any company that invites a potential seller to their works or factory are confident about their goods and services.

Let us know how this works out. Gotta be better than my crappy baritone neck from eBay.

Well, you already ordered, but I also want to confirm Blacque Jacque's experiences with guitarbuild.co.uk - I built this with a custom-ordered body from that company:

Had a very positive experience discussing everything via e-mail before ordering, and the body I received is very nice; OK, I've also ordered from Warmoth, and their bodies are still a little bit nicer (fine details like sanding, edges, etc.) - and also quite a bit more expensive, but with a little bit of work, a body from Guitarbuild will make a great guitar.

THAT'S the kind of shop I like to deal with!

Good luck with the build, Josh. Make sure you show us your progress.

I have ordered from guitarbuild with great results. All the routes and hole positions are spot on. Yes the standard parts require final sanding and some holes drilling from the premarked postions, but I'd rather do the finishing myself anyway, and I have to say that the wood quality was superb.
