I just gave a friend a strat copy and practice amp.he had mentioned that he would like to try and learn to play the guitar (he play's nothing now)
so he is a beginner, never held a guitar in his life (or any musicale instrument)
I was hopping some of you could recommend a few good free on line lessons to help get him started, thanks

I highly recommend this site. The Beginners Course should be exactly what he needs.

Another suggestion for instruction is netflix. There are lot of guitar instructional DVDs that can be checked out on netflix.

He starts right at the beginning and continues to teach through how to play and music theory and everything in between. Check it out and they are YouTube videos.

I realize we live in the era of immediately go online to learn about anything...which is awesome, and I do it all the time! But I will throw this out there too. Check your public library. Mine has a great selection of instructional guitar books and videos.

Marty Schwartz on youtube, if he signs the e-mail list he receives a free e-book with chords and scales.
