Denver musicians - let's get together and jam!

Don't know if this is the right forum but here goes...

Hi. I’m 55 and been playing guitar for many years. I have a day job and family that take up most of my time. Music is my hobby.

I'd like to find a similar age guitarist (acoustic or electric), bass player (electric or standup), drummer in the central Denver area for jamming, etc.

I have a small 5 watt tube amp that CAN get surprisingly loud but I run it clean and at low volume. I seldom play with distortion anymore but can (I use a pedal for overdrive). I mainly play my tele clean with just a little reverb (occasionally tremolo).

I play folk/rock/country/blues, basically old school hippie music. The standard classic rock suspects are influences. However – I do like to play mainly originals. I have a bunch of original tunes (with lyrics) and would be more than happy to work on/play your originals OR write new originals with you as well. I like jamming and stretching a song out.

As far as covers go, I am not against them but I’d rather do more originals than covers. Also I generally prefer reimagining a cover rather than trying to play it note for note. I can “sing.” I’ll leave it to others to decide how well. But am very open to others taking on some or most of the vocal duties.

No drugs, but a beer or two is fine with me. Mainly want to get together and jam. Wouldn’t mind recording some stuff (just with a computer, etc. in the "basement" not in a "pay" studio). I am not opposed to playing out (and have in the past) but would want to keep it pretty low key and strictly for fun (again this is a hobby – I’m not trying to make money with this).

About drums – my ideal is someone with just snare and hats (or a very small kit) who plays with brushes or rods and with a very light touch. I play at low volumes (somewhat louder than acoustic levels but not a lot) as I blew out my hearing as a youth. Not looking for anything fancy, just someone who can put it in the pocket and swing a little.

Again I live in central Denver, work days – nights and weekends are when I can get together. I just play in my basement so no “practice space or studio.” But certainly room for 3-4 people to get together and jam at reasonable volume. If you have a better space and aren’t hell and gone, I’m up for coming to your place.

As you might guess by now – low key, no drama, kicked back fun is what I’m looking for. So all you 40, 50 and 60 somethings let’s get together and make some music.

Saw your post elsewhere and thought I'd check it out. You appear to be way too experienced for me though, sorry.

There is a Denver area Meetup group that seem to get together every so often. I haven't gone or anything but I did see the description. You might check them out.

Good luck.

No drama? Where's the entertainment value in that?

Good luck with that. Have you posted on Craigslist?

We had a good TDPRI jam about a year ago and it was fun to connect with other forum folks and play. Maybe we could do it again this year and you can join us. It's a good way to meet other players.

Paul. Sounds like fun. Keep me in mind if it happens again.

I have definite opinions on CL. Se my Bad Dog Cafe Post.

Freejack, what is a meetup group? How does that work? Is that where everyone meets in one place and suddenly at 3 pm they all start dancing like the Thiller video?

Hey,

I'm in Colorado, wouldn't mind getting together. I have a few different music commitments in the week, but there's always room for one more!

Check out Meetup.com. I tried to find the group last night after my post but couldn't figure out a good keyword. The group might even be gone.

Meetup is a same interests site. I'm a member (and co-organizer) of a gaming group with going on 600 members. The idea is a group of people with similar interests can use the simple forum and calendar feature to schedule get togethers.
