Any love for Mark Linkous and Sparklehorse out there in TDPRIland?

Sparklehorse is a band I always find myself coming back to. Some great albums, superb songs, some great collaborations and a unique sound. Mark Linkous what a songwriter and interesting person he was. Shame what happened in the end but love the music left behind.

Oh, yes. Good Morning Spider is a great album. Mark did a lot of great music.

I'm also a huge Jazzmaster fan. I think we might get along, you and I.

Yeah I was quite fond of Sparklehorse. Particularly the first album and It's a Wonderful Life. Very sad. RIP, Mark.

Absolute genius. A very nice guy too. I loved watching M.L. live.

Big fan here.

Listened to the kinda ambient thing he did with Fenesz (sp?) a week or two ago. I should put on some more of his stuff - haven't had a listen in a while.

Cheers,
Geoff

I love Mark's dark approach to happy beatle-esque backdrops. Absolutely brilliant use of "I hate myself" to "I'm so happy" going on at the same time.

I love "Happy Man" - the version on that EP release - can't remember, but it is devoid of the annoying radio static.

Vivadixiesubmarinepilot and hello spider are battling for favorite status. Maybe Its a wonderful life should be thrown in too. I really like eyepennies.

Well said...I've been a Sparklehorse fan for years. Such a great talent and such a tragic story. I really like all of his albums. I go back to "Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain" most frequently. The collaboration that Linkous did with Danger Mouse not long before his death, "Dark Night Of The Soul" is great! He was clearly trying to tell us about his pain...I read in his NY Times obituary that he had another Sparklehorse album in the can before he died. I wonder if it will ever see the light of day?

Well having listened to alot of Sparklehorse over the last few days I've come to the conclusion that I don't have a favourite album. I did put a playlist together of my favourite songs and it came to 23.

He played on and co produced the Cracker Cd "Greenland" right before he died.

David Lynch's Dark Night of the Soul was interesting.

His artistry is missed.

Man, I love this song. And many others. Almost all his songs (don't think that's an exaggeration) had animal imagery. Good morning Spider - well, had a swallow on the cover. Lots of bees, etc. I always noticed that.

Cheers,
Geoff

I can't even begin to imagine what he's getting at there. But I know I like it. Oh, bonus PJ Harvey as well.

Cheers,
Geoff

Thanks to the OP for bringing Mark and Sparklehorse back to my attention. As I said upthread, it really had only been a couple weeks since I'd had the Fennesz thing on. But a long while since I'd had his other stuff on. Which is just nuts. I was literally in tears when I started typing this. I dunno what to say.The songs are just crazy good. Good Morning Spider was my introduction, as well. Beautiful sounds. Actually, I take that back. I first heard Linkus on a comp CD in the back of a magazine doing this ...
