Need Help Troubleshooting Esquire Wiring?!

Opened up a tele this afternoon that had been converted to an Esquire.
The "neck" switch position is still on vol+tone as is the "bridge" position; the only difference is that the bridge position sounds brighter. The middle position sounds like what's supposed to be the "bass" switch.

Why is it so twisted around? This is the diagram that was apparently followed http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=esquire

Here is a picture of the control plate upside down http://i.imgur.com/RvKzrl.jpg

The yellow wire is connected to the top left point, which is then jumpered to the top right point with the black wire.

The second left point is connected to the left lug on the tone pot. It is also jumpered to the third right point

The third left point is connected to the fourth right point with a resistor.
It is also connected with a Cap to the ground on back of the volume pot.

The fourth left point is connected to the left lug (the lugs of the vol and lugs of tone face eachother) on the volume pot.

The middle lug of the vol pot is heading to the out. The right lug is grounded.

The left lug of the tone pot is connected as above but also has a cap to ground. the middle and right lug are connected with a cap.
The right one is also connected to the left lug on the Volume pot.

I'd like to rewire it up so it works a little more traditionally. Cocked Wah at the top, Vol only in the middle and Vol+tone at the bottom.

Here's a sound clip of me running through the tone settings. It's "neck" position, middle, bridge. Then back to the top again. http://snd.sc/HpOZR4

Thank you for taking your time!
