JDO March 29th, 2012, 01:34 AM I've started paying attention to fx and looking for some I might like. I've noticed some songs with a slight phaser and thought I wouldn't mind something like that but not enough to buy a high dollar pedal. Someone has a PH-3 locally for $40.00. Just wondering what you guys thought about this pedal.
If you don't like this one, can you suggest a cheap phaser? Anyone had any time with the Joyo phaser?
tele salivas March 29th, 2012, 08:40 PM I've played that series of phaser(had the Boss PH-5 for a couple months) and while really a lot of sounds in there, they come off pretty digital sounding compared to other phasers out there. I use an MXR Phase 90 which is a pretty classic phaser sound. Nice rich texture. The block logo design you can get brand new for $70, so you can probably find one pretty inexpensive used. I also have a Danolectro Pepperoni phaser, which I got for $10 used and is really a fine phaser, that can get the "slight phaser" sound you might like, plus does the old country phaser sound really well. Won't drown out your sound, a good jumping off point to see what you like.
k tone March 29th, 2012, 08:56 PM It is a digital pedal. I ordered a used PH-2 from ebay for $60 that is analog. I am waiting for it to arrive...and waiting.
bossking7 March 29th, 2012, 09:15 PM Ive had no problem with my Phase 90, but Joyo has a clone for around $40 which you were also wondering about. the PH3 is great sounding too, but I prefer a Phase 90. But of course, I modded mine by taking out the R28 and C11, but thats another thread. Haha

That would explain that:lol:
teleNtweed March 29th, 2012, 09:58 PM I really like my PH3. At $40, you really can't go too wrong. It will likely be worth $40 no matter how long you have it.
I like it because it offers different sounds than the over used phase 90, however, so many recordings have been made with it, the phase 90 is a staple so it is hard to recommend something other than the phase 90 to phaser virgins.
The PH2 sounds fantastic but has noticeable amount of hiss. Lots of character but a bit of noise.
PH3 is digital, sounds great and stone quiet.
I miss my Keeley Phaser! It does not sound like a phase 90 either!! :)
Good luck bro, phase is fun!!
k tone March 30th, 2012, 01:22 AM I have an EHX Small Stone Nano for those trad tones as well.

I predict you will love the PH2! If you don't let me know!

Ya I am on a real Boss kick lately. I built an all Boss board of TU-2 --> PH-2 --> OS-2 --> DD-3. Just patiently waiting for the PH-2!!

Me too! CS-3>PH-3>SD1>GE-7>DD-7>FRV-1>RC-2, Seriously some of the most fun I have had with pedals in 25 years. Something about this rig makes me focus more on what I am playing and less on the shiny objects on the floor in front of me!!
JDO March 30th, 2012, 11:37 AM Thanks guys for your help. I'll go ahead and contact the guy. Just real quick, can you get the mxr phase 90 sound out of the ph-3?

Very close. The 4 stage mode with depth at about 1-2 o'clock and the resonance at roughly 9. Rate at whatever you want. I am quoting from memory but if you get it, I will give you my "phase 90" setting. Oh, I find it most effective before od or distortion.
