pickguard material?

what have you guys used as pickguard material. I want to make my own and am curious to know what is out there. Thanks.

Well, I used pickguard material.

The guitar shop where I dropped a bunch of cash on pots, tuners, knobs, etc. just happened to have a scrap just big enough, so I got it for free.:mrgreen:

You can buy the stuff on-line too, from several different vendors: Warmoth, Guitarfetish, WDMusic, Terrapin, etc.

I use bakelite available from McMaster-Carr as Garolite XX in large sheets.

Not strictly a pickguard, but I made my own b/w/b truss rod cover. I didn't have any b/w/b to hand so I used some scraps of 1mm styrene sheet laminated together with solvent weld & clamped overnight to keep it flat. Worked a treat.

Here's one I'm working on. It's thin sheet metal.

Metallic blue/green/gold argyle scrapbook paper mod podge'd to carboard from the back of a legal pad. Came out a little wrinkly here and there but looks better than how it did running no pickguard.
