and the neck pup into the middle postion and
leave the wiring alone...

no soldering iron needed, just a screwdriver

this should be the result;

1-m> w/tone control

2-m+n> no hum, standard quack and tone control

3-n> w/ tone control

4-n+b> no hum, very low quack and tone control >>>> :wink:

5-b>no tone control

anybody try this?

Yes I have prior to having my strat wired with one master tone control and making the second tone knob a blend control for the neck pickup.

I love B+N .

Fans of B+M will find this a change they can't live with however.

How do you find the neck/ bridge (neck now being middle) with no hum in this example Since they are wound the same direction they will hum that's why the use the RWRP in the middle to get the 2/4 position without hum. If you put that in the neck position the neck is now RWRP so only the #4 which is neck/middle is him canceling unless you use a 7 way with something like a push/pull so in Position #1 (bridge) in the up position you add the neck (now the old middle RWRP) pickup to the bridge.

^^^^^ Think about it D.Allen.

Remember there is no change made to the switch or controls. The only change is to remove the neck and middle pickups from the pickguard, leaving their wiring intact, and swap their positions.

The RWRP pickup has now been shifted to the neck position. Thus the new neck pickup in combination with either the middle or bridge pickups (which now have the same wind and polarity as each other) is hum cancelling.

The previous hum cancelling combination of bridge and middle pickups is now a hum cancelling combination of bridge and neck pickups. There is now no longer any bridge/middle combination available just as previously there was no bridge/neck combination available.

In my strat which has all 7 combinations available I have the RWRP pickup in the neck position because I use bridge/middle the least and prefer to have hum cancelling on bridge/neck and middle /neck.

yep.....and if your not a quack lover

and can live with only one quack position (m+n)...

as i am....

and like the mid position on a tele

as i do...

this is a practical, easy mod...

remember what i said;

no soldering iron, just a screwdriver,

only swapping pickup positions...no touchy wiring....:wink:

I get it I missed that sorry not enough sleep the past few days. Just not sure why I would do that in place of good shielding so all positions are quiet. Interesting thought though and I am sure works well for some. The other issue I would have on some sets is that I calibrate the output for each position an on some sets it might make the neck position (now middle pickup) pickup have to much output.
I hope to have an answer out very soon that will make all positions quiet without any time loss and with most wiring mods.

So a guy gets a set (position wound correct) that has a NORTH neck, and the bridge and middle are SOUTH.

Then put in a p/p pot for a neck on switch ( so you get N&B pup)

Retain the Strat-O-Tone, get 7 way and noise cancel in two positions.

Yes sjtalon thats what I said.

I think the OP's point is that if you want to try Bridge/Neck combination very easily just swap the neck and middle pickups in the pickguard. You can make your mind up about more permanent alterations depending on whether you like what you hear

Right, the pickup hole swap will get you what, simply, if you don't care about the M&B.

I installed a mini toggle on one Strat and a p/p on another for N&B. Nice to have that tonal option, and it kinda gives a county twang tone too there. Cheap bonus, a non quack-bell-chime two pup option.
