Hi
I had this pick up installed in my D 28 three years ago and it works great. I usually set the volume at a 2 or 3 setting. This week I had the same pick up installed in my 2000 D1. When I got it home and plugged into my amp I had to set the volume at 5 or 6 to get the same volume as the D28. Is this normal or has anyone else experienced this?

I must have a different version of this pickup(??)- I had a Gold Plus installed in my 1993 D-1 when I bought the guitar (new), but mine has no controls....just the saddle pickup, battery clip and endpin preamp/jack.( Great sound now, almost 20 years!) Does yours have a "volume wheel" mount under the soundhole or something similar? just curious...

edit: just realized the volume setting was referring to amp settings, sorry!

Since you just had it done, you should bring both guitars to your tech and show him your concern since they are the same pickup.

I used to have a Baggs passive I-beam but that was really weak. When my uke with a passive piezo p/u was much louder I knew I had to change it out. I installed a passive Martin Thinline 332 in my Larrivee and am very satisfied with the results. It's loud now, a huge difference from the I-beam. Like your D-28, only needs 1-1/2 or 2 on the amp (Acoustasonic Jr.) where the other needed like 6 or 7. I don't need a pre-amp but I use one to adjust the tone and give a closer volume control and the DI to the sound board is an added bonus.

It sounds like maybe the pickup strip isn't getting enough down pressure with the saddle or a weak battery? A loose or nicked wire? Cold solder joint on the input jack? It could simply be a bad p/u. Not sure on what it could be but one thing for certain is you shouldn't have to flush it out. Show the difference to the tech and hopefully he takes charge of the situation. Wood and construction differences in the guitars shouldn't make a difference in p/u volume, IMO. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing.

Thanks for the info. I will have it checked out.
