My new hero, Commodore 64 was kind enough to send me a Rose Boubon/Alba set. I noticed that the Alba isnt wrapped or wax potted (not uncommon) and was thinking I may wrap/pot it. Being an electrician, I have that old fashioned black cloth splice tape on my van. Just a thought.

Any idears as to why I should or shouldnt do this?

Thanks in advance

wrapping an exposed mag coil, such a a tele or esquire bridge pup, with tape or string is more form than function, since little of the coil is typically exposed about the bridge or mount ring or pickguard. but it's good insurance, so it should be done none-the-less. tape wrap after wax potting, string wrap before wax potting. most any tape will do just fine.

pickups that are not potted are invariably extremely microphonic for the most part and will squeel, howl and talk back all too happily. for me, potting is a must for all coils - and i prefer to vacuum wax pot.
