Hello internets. I'm Adam and I've got 3 Telecasters in various stages.
First, I've got an early 90's Mexican that I re-bodied after I dropped it and smashed the original sunburst pretty badly. It has a maple neck and a black Warmoth body (I think). When I bought it, it had a humbucker in the neck which I decided to remove when I rebuilt it. I put in a Seymour Duncan neck pickup and then wired it up all ****-eyed and weird and it never really worked right. I recently decided to take it apart and get it working the way I wanted. I had spun the control plate at some point since I was always hitting the selector and but I never changed the position of the Vol/Tone knobs. So I did that and then I found Unkie Al's 5-Way Strat-switch Tele Wiring which I liked and eventually did but since I'm so freaking dyslexic, I had to take the design into Photoshop and actually arrange it so it looked like it would when was in my guitar. I posted my arrangement back to the thread I'd found it in. A couple hours later, it all works exactly right and since I had shielded the heck out of the body when I first built it, it's real quiet.
I also have a Parts-Caster. I put it together around 2002 as a tribute to Widespread Panic's lead guitarist Michael Houser who had passed. I couldn't afford a 2 thousand dollar Tele Plus Deluxe so I made my own, sorta. I got a red-burst Squier body from eBay. I've never seen another one this color (black edge to a blood-red fade) so while it's not really the Firestorm Red Mikey's was, it's as close as I could get it. I got a pair of Red Lace Sensor's from eBay for the bridge but couldn't find a LS blue for the neck. Warmoth was discontinuing the Fender Lace Sensors so I got mine brand new, real cheap. I put in an Allarts, flat humbucker bridge and had Warmoth make me a pickguard with a strat pickup shape in the neck and a humbucker bridge cut. I got a Might Mite rosewood neck and Planet Waves locking tuners. I couldn't at the time find a schematic for the Tele Plus wiring and I found someone who did custom wiring on eBay. He made a custom 3-knob control plate and has a bazillion pickup combinations. Most of which are indistinguishable from one another. So that was a bust. I barely play it which is too bad because it's a real pretty guitar. If anyone has a wiring diagram for the 1990's Tele Plus with a H/S a 5-way and a tiny switch in between the knobs that I think is a humbucker splitter, please let me know. I may give that one another shot at life.
Oddly enough the guitar I play the most, I have done absolutely nothing to. I have a bone-stock Squier 51. It's the sunburst color. I saw on GFS they just got their own version of the Bigsby. I'm thinking about getting one of their Tele versions and cutting off the front that goes around the pickup since I can't use it and throwing a Bigsby-style trem on the '51. Although for another $75 bucks and no work, I could have a GFS Strat and be done so I may do that instead.
Thanks for the great site. Glad to be a part of it.
