Pickups for my CV

Hi, I'm new to this forum.

I recently bought a classic vibe tele and I like the stock pickups a lot, But I was wondering if I ever want to upgrade the pickups, what should I get? I like the 50's tele tone. I mainly play blues and classic rock, but I like playing country too sometimes. I like twang. I just want a good vintage style tele pickup. (50's or 60's)

Which pickups (neck and bridge) are the most popular, and which ones are the best? Which pickups set(s) would you recommend me?

Cheers,

Maurice

Nothing wrong with what comes stock in that thing. The jack is another matter though, swap it out for an electrosocket.

And yep welcome

It's amazing what GAS can do to a person, I liked the stock pups in mine BUT, I had to put a set of CS Nocasters in when I got gas. I then had to buy a second CV to put a set of Wilde Bill Keystones in...GAS can get you in trouble with the better half.

I'm not a fan of fender pups, I prefer Seymour duncans, but how are the keystones?

Dimarzio Twang Kings..

I preach the truth, hands down best overlooked tele pickups on the market

I have a TK bridge pickup and I do like it but I find it's a little hot for those times when you want that vintage tele tone

There's nothing wrong with that either..

I have mine set to 2 nickels and a dime on the bass side.

Nickel and dime on the treble side.

Adjust the middle to taste

FWIW...I've been through the run of pickup makers...duncan, fralin, lollar, lawrence, chevalier, dimarzio, etc...all great pickups with their own slightly different characteristics.

I know you said that youre not a fan, but through all of these, the ones I've held on to most...swapped in and out of the most guitars...have bought multiple sets of are the CS Texas Specials. For a moderate price, they are to me the most versatile pickups out there. The neck and bridge are both wound right around 9K, a nice middle of the road output that works for all styles.

I have multiple personality disorder when it comes to music. One day (our hour) I'm trying to get Gilmour tones, the next I'm trying to chicken pick a Paisley riff, and then I'm on to Buddy Guy.

If you want a set that will target a specific tone, then look to get a magnet type with a certain output to achieve that tone (or ask the winder for their recs). I've found over the last several years that pretty much all of the well-known winders are building good quality pickups. In the end, it is just magnets...wire...and fiberboard...120 year old technology...not rocket science.

To answer your question about a good vintage set on a CV50...look no further than Keystones IMO...for 75 bucks, they can't be beat.
