Champion Output Transformer Change

Hi all,

I’ve just got a used Fender Champion 600 with the 4 ohm output and would like to change the speaker for an 8” 8 ohm Celestion I already have and also run it through a 12” 8 ohm cabinet which I will pick up this weekend.

Rather than replace both speakers, it seems it would be cheaper to replace the output transformer for one with an 8 ohm tapping like this one

http://www.ampmaker.com/store/5W-single-ended-output-transformer.html

Would this be OK ? Would there be any changes to the volume or any other components that will need changing ?

Thanks for your help.

Tony

Think the primary impedance of the 600 is around 10k ohms.

It will work fine, primary impedance is a little low, usually 6-8k, but all will be well. Actually, looking at the RCA data sheet, 5K should do as well as 8k http://www.triodeel.com/6v6_p5.gif

Thanks for the replies.

The ClassicTone looks good, but by the time shipping and taxes to the UK are added, it starts to get expensive.

I'll probably go with the ampmaker one which I think is by Danbury Electronics.

Cheers,

Tony.
