MIM Strat Neck Heel Width

Hey,

I'm looking into buying a new neck for my Classic Series 50's Strat. Would anybody happen to know if the heel width on these guitars is standard or not?

I'm looking at a neck on ebay that is from a deluxe players strat. Would I have any problems with the neck fitting on the classic series body?

Thanks,

Funk

Hey thanks man...I appreciate it....I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't about to buy a neck that wouldn't fit the body I'm wanting to attach it to...like I said, I've swapped out necks before and never had a problem...but it just got me wonderin'...I'm gonna spend more on this neck then I have for others....I'd hate to buy it and it not work.

Thanks again,

The MIM Fender necks "should" be the same width as the USA models, but sometimes there are variations.
I was going to swap the neck from a MIM Blacktop Strat (22 frets) to my MIM Roland Ready Strat (21 frets) but the holes were slightly off, so that there was a gap on the upper body neck joint. With the stock RR neck no gap.

Just a heads up , you can run into that with any neck replacement , I've swapped out necks on a lot of other MIM Fender and had no problems, even had a MIJ Tele neck on a MIM Tele body and no problems.

Hey, thanks for the response...I really appreciate it. The necks that I'm planning on swapping out are both from Fender MIM strats...so I'm thinking that they'll match up. My main concern was that the 2 necks have a different radius...the original neck is 7.25 and the one I'm looking at buying is a 9.5....I wasn't sure if the flatter 9.5" radius would make the neck wider at the heel then the original neck or not...I'm thinking that the radius of the fretboard has nothing to do with the width of the neck heel....or am I wrong on this??

Thanks,

They should be the same width, radius is the curvature of the fingerboard, nothing to do with the width, you will have to adjust your bridge saddles accordingly.

Both necks that I mentioned were MIM Fender, they were the same width but apparently the screw holes to attach the neck were spaced slightly different on the Blacktop neck , that's why it had a gap when I installed it on the MIM RR Strat.

I appreciate the input guys...I'm thinkin' that the smart thing to do would be to just go ahead and pull the neck and measure the pocket...just to be sure...didn't really wanna have to do that right now, but, if it works out, I'll be replacing the neck within a week anyway...so I might as well. I was kinda hoping to hear that they're all the same...but I guess that's too much to hope for.... :) Especially when you're talking about something made out of wood.

Thanks again.

hhhmmmm......just pulled that neck...and the pocket on the body is 2 1/16....the width of the neck is just a frog hair less...(a really small frog). I measured my MIM tele and it's exactly the same.

Is there a chance, that when they say 2-3/16, that's it's actually a tad smaller??? I know that when you're talking about lumber, say a 2X4 board....the actual measurement is like 1-3/4X 3-3/4.

I don't think I've ever seen a neck on the web that measured anything but 2-3/16...but that doesn't mean anything...

Thanks,

In my experience, mim & mia necks are pretty close to 2 3/16. Usually, they measure a little under. I believe they probably start at 2 3/16 when they come off the cnc machine & end up under that after final sanding.

I just took a pic of a mim strat neck I have laying around. Very close to 2 3/16". Excuse my fat fingers!

Well I bought the neck...we'll see how it works out...I've got a feeling it's gonna fit fine...worst case scenario...it won't fit, and I'll just have to sell it on ebay...maybe I won't be out too much money.

It's curious though...Warmoths website says all their necks are made with 2-3/16" heel widths to comply with fenders standard measurements...but if fenders necks and bodies have that much variance, then how do people buy Warmoth necks for their fenders??

Anyway, I appreciate all the input guys. Helpful as always.
