Tim Clone Breathes

Woo Hoo!

I built my Timmy clone and it works. I can't really tun up the volume because my wife is napping (really bad cold) but it works. I had a little issue with buying the wrong input jack (two conductor with tip shunt) so I had to move the AC jack ground but that was my only mistake. I haven't played with the clipping diodes yet (both switches are open) but I'll give them a try later.

I didn't paint the enclosure and I don't think that I will. I'm a terrible painter based on previous projects and I kind of like the all aluminum look.

The red and yellow wires leading to the control pots are 20ga. solid core (leftover from my amp project) wires and the board does not move. The little red wire on the lower right side of the board feeds voltage to the LED. The LED limiting resistor is completely obscured by the green wire coming from the stomp switch (signal in to the board) at the bottom of the board.

Cool! Love the Radio Shack box - I built a fuzz with that same enclosure.

Can you post a sound clip when your wife feels better?

I had a chance to play it a little more last night but still quietly because the kids were sleeping. Playing with the clipping diodes did result in some variations of tone and attack. I wish now that I had connected them to an external switch on the top of the pedal. I guess it's not to late to do that but I'll probably wait a bit. I would say that turning on S2 (D6) produced more gain than both switches open and a creamier tone/attack. Turning on S1 (D7) seemed to give a little sharper attack and more gain than both switches open. Still really hard to say which one I like best.

I need to replace the input jack with a 3 conductor stereo jack and then add a 9v battery cap.

I can't record right now as my recorder is at a friends house. When I get it back I'll try to record something (with the caveat that I still suck, just a little less).
