Garageband in Mac OS X - Audio Units (AUs) question: performance

Will removing unused Audio Units (AUs) improve the performance of Garageband in Mac OS X? In other words, do the AUs that aren't in use in a track have any overall effect on the program's performance?

It seems like I have a ton of them that I never use. Can they safely be removed from the Library? Or is there no point in doing so?

EDIT: Sorry, obviously meant this for the recording forum ... can y'all move it for me?

No additional system resources are used if there are no plug-ins on tracks; or if there are plug-ins on tracks, but bypassed.

As far as deleting plug-ins with no ill effects, I just did a test using OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and GB '09:

I moved a couple of .component files from the /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components sub-directory into the trash and opened GB with no problem. The plug-ins just weren't listed.

I closed GB, restored the trashed .component files, re-opened GB and they were available again.
