I've got to cram a whole lot of knowledge into a couple of days...an acquaintance is bringing over some high end, (Manley, API, etc.), preamps, compressors and other toys this weekend.
I'm using Logic on a Mac Mini. My inputs are FastTrack Pro and an Alesis IO/26.
Sooo....the inputs have crappy preamps in them. Is there a way to bypass? Also, if we want to add compression or eq to a track already recorded, how do I get out of the computer-->into the processor and-->back into Logic?
Thanks in advance,

Just get a send return patch and go in via the insert jack below the 2 way channel jack...it says "insert"..that's the one.

Perfect! I suspected that.
And that will bypass the built-in pres, or will it let me cycle a track in and out of Logic?

For the pres, go into the good pre, out into a line input on your interface.
As for inserting stuff in mix, you need to engage the I/O plugin. In my setup I have outs 1 & 2 as my main stereo outs. I have the inputs and outputs for 3 & 4, 5 & 6 etc. set up for inserting compressors and stuff.
But, it screws up your ability to solo things. There is a workaround http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3109
Also check your latency compensation settings. I forget where they are - maybe in the prefs.
Have fun!
Cheers,
Geoff

Thanks for the advice and the link. I should be okay...just hoping to get nice vocals with those high end machines.
I don't necessarily want to process old tracks, but it's nice to know how.
