Welcom Igor, and Good luck. Make sure to read the rules so that you don't inadvertantly disqualify yourself. You need to take a picture of your raw wood with the proof sheet before you begin doing any work.

Thanks Roger, I know... Last year I did build Jazz Box Tele in challenge, but I don´t have enough time to finish my projects, so my post was removed

OK, so it's time to introduce to you my plan:
I want build "Snakehead" 1. tele prototype, body from 3pcs pine, hard maple neck without trussrod, 7,25" radius, vintage frets, Kevin Smith´s bridge pickup...

Last challenge I did not finish project, I spend few weeks and many hours with Jazz box Tele. This year I bet on Fastest Completion Category, because my time is limited

Good to see you back as I really enjoyed following your build last year - wonderful skills on display. Did you end up finishing that guitar? If so, I'd love to see some photos. All the best in the challenge.

I thought I was making good progress, now I feel like I'm in slow motion. Nice quality even at this rate of speed. Have you slept yet? How many hours a day do you work on this?

I like this guitar.

Great progress so far.

The radious jig is a serious piece of kit.

At this speed I better not blink otherwise I'll miss the finish.

Cheers

Hi mates, thanks for comments and watching, hope you enjoy my thread.

First day I works on guitar about two hour, next day 8, yesterday and today about one hour. Without coffe, only with mineral water and orange juice.
I don´t forget eat and sleep. don't worry, I sleep well :-)

Radius jig is my design, I joined ideas from Grizzly and LMII radius jig. I can adjust radius from 5" to 16" with fine tune....

1. Spray on wood/grain sealer
2. Real light color passes to tint
3. Followed by Minwax spray poly

I think it's time to declare a winner in the Fastest Build competition. This appears to comply with all the rules and be the fastest build at one week and a day.

Way to go Igor!

If any one objects to this ruling, please contact me immediately. I know of no others that are completely done... and have contacted me to declare the prize.

If there is a tie or a discrepancy then we would have a vote of all the participants. So, unless I hear from someone today this will become final.

Is that a special nitro finish? I mean, i always thought one had to wait several weeks for the laquer to cure, before sanding/buffing.

This is what I was wondering about.

I was thinking maybe just really thin, or even water based.

I hope Igork responds, as this was my #1 question and amazement.

The simplicity and quality are stunning. I have a snake phobia, so that part kinda creeps me out, but the snakehead is beautiful. The finish is perfect. Looking forward to finding out what types of finishes you used.

Can the first to finish also win the all around? :)

First off great job Igork, that guitar sounds great and nice groove you were playing. The guitar looks stunning.

Regarding the fast lacquer cure, my Dad has a special heat lamp that he uses to cure his lacquer, something he used to use in the automotive industry when he did show cars on a tight schedule. I swear he can get his guitar lacquer cured and polished in 2 days. This is possibly what is being used here?

I need to get me one of those lamps but they are almost $400

Thanks a lot for congratulation, I want thanks specialy to Tdpri forum for Build Challenge, everybody got chance demonstrate skills and courage to build his guitar, it is very inspirational.
Last year I don´t finish my project, it was very time-consuming and I overestimated my strength, this year I had luck and not so demanding design as last year.
I wish good luck to all participants of Build Challenge
Thanks again...

Here is lacquer which I did use for this guitar:
it´s sandable base Nitro lacquer, dry very fast and is easy to sand. Semi gloss, but polishable to nice finish. For relicing instrumens is best i ever had...
For modern guitars I use High gloss Nitro lacquer and this is dry and sandable in few weeks...

Sanding sealer?

Nitrocelulózový Základní Brousitelny = Sandable Nitrocellulose Base

I wouldn't have thought of it for a final finish. Very clever!

Hmm, sanding sealer, that IS a good one! I remember in Preeb's epic '59 LP build thread, he mentioned that he bought lacquer that didn't have any plasticizer or other agents in it, just pure lacquer, and it dried much quicker than the stuff we all usually buy... wonder how close this sanding sealer is to Preeb's lacquer? Maybe Preeb can comment on that...

Obviously the first horse in the barn, and what a beaut!!! The bar has been set high (again!!) this year!!!

Don't know about the sealer but the lack of plasticizers in a good quality nitro lacquer speeds up the curing process. Providing the finish film is thin enough it can get introduced to the buffing wheel in 2 days (-;

I'd love to find something like that commercially available here in the states. Waiting > 1 month to wet sand makes me sad.

No... not commercially available... but you can ask a local manufacturer to put aside a gallon or two right before the plasticizers are added so there's no need to make an entire batch and get stuck with way too much lacquer.
