With results like yours, I'm happily joining Caribbean Burst Nation. As for Snakehead Nation, though, I can't help but think of how nice that same burst would look on a lovely, swoopy, 6-on-a-side tele headstock...

Fanstastic looking guitar, Herb!

Wouldn't be symmetrical blah blah blah...............but then again, all bent over like that and bulged in the middle is where too many margaritas usually leave me

Seriously, I like the tele headstock (the right-side up variety), I just like the Snake, better

My original plan was to use a snakehead, but I misread the rules. Only the body had to look like a Tele. Oh well, just have to add that to my list of guitars to build.

Thanks very much picton , I don't know how it would look on a 6 on a side swoopy headstock , I have a hunch it would look good , one day I'll try it

:lol::lol: That's just wrong. Wait, that sounds a lot like drinking castor oil, which my mom would give us whenever we were sick and wanted to stay home from school. Which meant we were never sick enough to want to stay home from school, so I guess castor oil does work after all.

This looks about as shiny as it gets. Very nice! Your weather must have been pretty decent the last couple weeks for it to dry so fast, yeah?

I know the colors immediately draw references to Jimmy Buffet, parrots, umbrella drinks and all that, that's cool...but this is more what I think of when I look at it, even if the snake is pale by comparison. Repeat after me - "Love the SnakeBurst!"

Well , today seems like a good day to do nuttin , so that's what I am doing.

Got this neat string spacing guage from mojoatomic a few months ago , it works pretty good , just slide the nut blank between the two outer lines until they are just on the edges of the nut and then pencil mark you slots

http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/zz246/adirondak50/2012%20build%20challenge/IMAG2446.jpg?t=1334946210

Then I started the slots with a .10 and a .30 saw and then cut them with appropriate sized files

http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/zz246/adirondak50/2012%20build%20challenge/IMAG2447.jpg?t=1334946149

Then I put a set of 10's on so I could fine tune the nut , also plugged the guitar into my Blues Jr just to see if my wiring and pups were ok , they are , pups sound pretty good

http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/zz246/adirondak50/2012%20build%20challenge/IMAG2448.jpg?t=1334946199

That's were I'm at now , gotta fine tune the nut a bit and get her setup , oh boy , I see light at the end of the tunnel

In the meantime resist the temptation to melt that wax ring and waxpot your pickups, that stuff is gross. It feels like it takes a weak to wear off your hands if you touch it.

Well , in my haste to get the nut done I broke the end off on the big E side , oh well , get out a bone nut blank , start sanding , fit it in nut slot , cut ends off , start slots , file slots , put strings back on , get feeler gauge and get slots a little deeper , I'll finish this tomorrow after the plumbing work I hope

Just gorgeous, Herb! Makes me want to go mix up some pina coladas! Your results also have me re-evaluating the possibility of doing a faux binding on my build.

Truly inspiring!

Hey thanks R. , mmmmmmmm , pina coladas , a little dark rum to settle on the bottom , a little lite rum to stay on top

Definitely think about the faux binding on your build , you've got that nice flame maple top , use it to it's fullest advantage .

My son in law Steve came over and we did a pretty bad smart phone video , neither one of us has a decent video camera , gotta get one this year , anyway , video quality is bad , the video is a bit washed the sound isn't great , Steve did the playing , my hands don't work so good especially when it raining and cold , I'll try to get a better camera and get a better video up if I can but if not this will be the one , but at least you can see the guitar works properly and plays . Its being played through a blues jr . I am really happy with the pickups , this guitar will really rock out and get dirty if ya want it to .

Herb, how could you take off before I congratulated you
on a very fine job?

The caribbean burst belies what that guitar is capable
of! Was that a Dead Kennedys song your son-in-law
was playing?

Anyway, the result is beautiful, it has been a pleasure
to see your workmanship, and your contribution as a
supportive, kind, and funny guy is also important.

Thanks Glenn , we were kinda fooling around with Pipeline and Steve just improvised a bit more to his style and that's where it went at the start of the video , the middle and end after looking at it again might be a Dead Kennedys song , gotta check with Steve on that .
Thanks much for your kind words and support , it is much appreciated.
