Picton March 18th, 2012, 10:28 AM I can't imagine finding the time to be this inventive during a build. As a lifelong fan, I'm showing Star Wars to my psych classes this week as an explanation of Jung, and I went to find a copy of the film last week. I was mortified that the whole of Eastern Massachusetts contained just one DVD copy of the movie for sale, used. I found out the hard way that I haven't been keeping up with current events; Lucas has decreed that all must use Blu-Ray, and that the original release of the first movie ("the real one") shall never be remastered. Whatever. I just went and got it from the library anyway. jpbturbo March 18th, 2012, 10:43 PM Fantastic thread! I am subscribed for the sequel. I've heard good things about these saws, so how about an honest full review? Did it come with the riser block? I think I read it could resaw 10 or 12" with the 104" blade. I need to upgrade from my little 9" table top and since I've had about a 70% success rate with Harbor Freight, I'd like to hear from someone that owns one before I buy it. Like everybody else, I love this thread, btw. Thanks for sharing it, as I know it's quite a bit of work. jpbturbo April 3rd, 2012, 01:58 PM Nice mod. I can let you know once I've used it a little more. A couple of things that I've noticed right off, The blade tensioner as already mentioned. The stock blade guide blocks are plastic crap, par for the course on cheap saws. $13 gets you a set of "cool blocks" on ebay, graphite infused phenolic blocks that you can get right up to the blade and are supposed to help keep the blade cooler and reduce friction etc... Mine needs a new set of tires. I'll probably get a set of urethane tires and maybe an accu-link/power-twist belt which should cut down on vibration which isn't that bad anyway but could be a little better. The stock blades aren't going to be any good, the ones that mine came with are not that great either. The power switch is a little awkward being down on the base. I don't have the riser block with mine. Supposedly the riser block kit part # is 24536-0ZZA, and it is not available in store so you must order it via phone. All in all I'm happy with it for the price. I think I'd have to spend a lot on accessories to get close to an entry level Grizzly or Jet in this size. Like everybody else, I love this thread, btw. Thanks for sharing it, as I know it's quite a bit of work. Thanks a bunch. It would be a lot easier to just build a guitar but the story must go on. -Josh jpbturbo April 3rd, 2012, 01:59 PM Star Wars paint job??? I'm not really sure yet. R. I really hope it's not. sjohnbruton April 19th, 2012, 10:55 AM Jp, I LOVE this tread! And thanks to everyone following for their great sense of humor. I laugh every time I check in on this thing... I had no idea this place was SO full of geeks like me! And I mean that in the best possible way. I mean, what's better than guitars and Star Wars? nosmo April 19th, 2012, 11:02 AM Uhmmm.......guitars & beer? oigun April 19th, 2012, 11:22 AM Somebody should go on photoshop and provide translated versions of each Greedo picture, for ease of reading... http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-SVTLFZ6X.jpg Hmm..not a big help I suppose... nosmo April 19th, 2012, 11:25 AM But what would help is if Greedo would spell his words correctly. I mean, it's hard enough to read it upside down & backwards! CarlosN April 19th, 2012, 12:08 PM I hope your thermal exhaust port is at least two meters wide. LOL - used literally! This thread reply brings out the SW geeks and comics in all of us. Love it. flatfive April 19th, 2012, 01:10 PM I've graduated from the Mirror Method. I'm now reading Gredo bare back. I'm still having problems. Funny, I can read a book upside down almost as easily as right side up. I wondered if it were the font or the direction. I just tested by taking a mirror to a book -- the problem for me is the direction. CarlosN April 19th, 2012, 01:30 PM I'm ok reading single line text, but at 2 or 3 line of text it gets hard to figure out what line is the "top" line. Thats when I break out the little mirror. Muzikp April 19th, 2012, 02:11 PM Something I haven't seen mentioned yet is the superb photography in all these pictures. If Josh was doing this exact same thread with me as the photographer we would all be very bored. You are a great photographer Josh, oh and it should be mentioned that the bass seems to be turning out really well also. fretman_2 April 20th, 2012, 12:54 PM Wow...talk about exhausting some gas! I quoted this because I felt it deserved to be said twice and since James has already so eloquently said it......well, there it is again, but this time consider it my sentiments. Having said all that, you are planning on an ongoing "series" in the Tele Home Depot, right? sketchanderase April 20th, 2012, 09:54 PM Just read this in one sitting. They're great young adults now, but believe me, you simply will not believe how fast those childhood days go by. Savor all of them. GerryB April 21st, 2012, 02:39 PM How did you rout the binding channel on the neck blank? What tool(s) did you use? I flipped the router upside down in the workmate with a 1/2" skil flush trim bit. But I swapped the bearing out for one that came with a beading/roundover bit. jb12string April 23rd, 2012, 05:50 PM Great work, love the storytelling... nosmo April 23rd, 2012, 06:09 PM I meant to post this the other day - Beautiful family! Thanks. I meant to post this the other day - Beautiful family! Thanks. Could you post a picture of your beading/roundover bit and how you used it to cut your binding channel? Thanks. It was actually a 1/2" flush trim bit with the smaller bearing from a beading/roundover bit. Most of the skil roundover bits come with a smaller 3/8" diameter bearing to use for beading edges. With the smaller bearing on the flush trim bit it makes a 1/16" deep cut. You can kind of see it here, http://jpbturbo.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/067.jpg I think this is the flush trim bit I used, http://www.lowes.com/pd_204429-353-91201_4294857537__?productId=1058309&Ntt=skil&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl_Routers%2BBits_4294857537__s%3FNt t%3Dskil&facetInfo= I already had the roundover/beading bit so it was a cheap solution to cutting the binding channel. However with a router table one could set something up like this, http://jpbturbo.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/binding_guide.jpg Then you could use a standard 1/4" or 1/2" straight cut bit. Excellent to see your family in the build string. You have your priorities all set! Beautiful family. Thanks, Not sure if I'll finish in time before the end of the challenge. I'm trying to pack the house up to move across town and get ready for the new baby that's due on May 24th. I will finish this but it might be in the Tele Home Depot forum.
