I'm not really sure.
I don't have time to discuss this in a committee.

jpbturbo May 3rd, 2012, 11:53 AM This build is officially on hold.
Baby #4 decided to pop out yesterday afternoon.
God has blessed us with a little baby boy.
More info and pics to follow.
rcole_sooner May 3rd, 2012, 11:59 AM Congrats!!!
OTOH, I hate it when a series gets interrupted mid-season. Keep us posted!
CarlosN May 3rd, 2012, 12:04 PM Grats on the baby, do you have a name yet? Luke perhaps?
RogerC May 3rd, 2012, 12:22 PM Congratulations! I hope mom and baby are doing well.
nosmo May 3rd, 2012, 12:43 PM Congratulations! I got all excited when I finished a guitar - You just finished a BABY! I think you win
I hope all is well with everyone.
Don't worry about the bass, I'm sure your little helpers can carry on without you. Now that I think about it, I haven't seen you do anything yet. Could be the little helpers are doing it without you already
Barncaster May 3rd, 2012, 01:14 PM Josh,
Now that the Star Wars characters are temporarily out of work, will they be providing diaper changing and feeding commentary? It would be kind of funny to see Guido get in the wrong "end" of a diaper change. I can see them now holding a scale up under your eyes to daily measure the increase in diameter of the dark circles from sleep deprivation....
P.S. I'm a Star Wars fan and my little boy is named Luke and my wife made me say, "Luke, I am your father" to him when he was born......
Rob
Barncaster May 3rd, 2012, 01:14 PM Oh, and yes, congratulations!
Allthesound May 3rd, 2012, 01:16 PM Wow Congrats Josh!! That is great news and a true blessing!

RogerC May 3rd, 2012, 04:36 PM I... guess... that's important enough to put a guitar build on hold!

Picton May 5th, 2012, 08:32 AM He looks happy and tired, like he just got done with a particularly strenuous gig.
Again, congrats and enjoy the ride (x4).
jpbturbo May 5th, 2012, 08:50 AM Thanks guys.
We are all a little worn out but very happy.
His was the shortest labor so far with the intense part only lasting two hours.
In the true DIY spirit of the challenge we had him at home, just like our other three.
I've got a couple more shots of the challenge build that I haven't posted yet.
I'll get those up soon but that will probably be it until after we move in June and I can get a shop built at the new place.
As the challenge winds down I'll see if Paul can move the thread into the home depot so I can keep the story going.
Thanks,
Josh
LeroyBlues May 5th, 2012, 09:06 AM Congrats. Beautiful.
Davecam48 May 5th, 2012, 10:31 AM Congratulations on the little tacker mate! They are real fun when they are small, then they grow up and want motor bikes!
Joe Sailor May 5th, 2012, 11:58 AM God Bless and congrats! Raising four kids has taught me this, one kid and you parents can double team him, when you have two kids you go to the man-on-man defense, three kids and you have to go to the zone defense, (you watch the sidewalk, I'll cover the curb), but when you have four kids, all you can do is rope-a-dope, cover up and hope you don't get hurt.
Wheelie May 5th, 2012, 12:02 PM Congratulations Josh and Mrs. Josh!
Way to go man, and you put the stem on the apple to boot.

Michael Terry May 7th, 2012, 03:29 AM Wow congrats on #4!
I wish cigars could be emailed
Ryden May 7th, 2012, 09:45 AM Congratulations!! Your kids must be veritable angles to go for a fourth. We have three and I would never be able to handle one more, they'd gang up and blindside us.
Big hugs to the entire family!
CraigB May 7th, 2012, 09:57 AM Congratulations to you, wife, #1, 2 and 3 on the new addition! You got a full house!
emoney May 7th, 2012, 10:20 AM With that new "build" you truly are the winner of this challenge. Congrats to you, mom and

Won't it be nice that this guitar will always be associated
in your mind with Gregory's birth?
adirondak5 May 8th, 2012, 03:25 PM Congrats Josh to you and your family on the arrival of Gregory

Fred_Garvin May 22nd, 2012, 08:56 PM Glad to see the thread back, congratulations on your new son!
Your priorities are way out of whack, though. You could have been working on guitars while your wife was in labor.
jpbturbo July 6th, 2012, 09:55 AM And we're back.
Thanks for all the wonderful replies.
We have moved into the new place and I'll have the new shop setup ready in another week or so.
I was able to snag an 8x16 minibarn from behind my neighbors house.
Actually, it came from the same guy that through out a perfectly good broken yamaha acoustic last summer when he was moving away.
A little bit of siding and shingles and some work on the floor and I have a shed for far cheaper than I could have bought anything.
It's going to be a tight fit once i get the car stuff stored in the back but I think it's going to work out pretty well for building guitars.

I've just been way to busy with moving he family to a new house, moving the tools into the new shop, work, etc...
I put a couple of shelves in the back of the new shed today.
They are already loaded down with turbochargers and other various car parts.
I almost left my grow lights at the old place too:confused:

kwerk July 10th, 2012, 04:49 AM Officer, I swear they are just for UV finishes.
kwerk July 10th, 2012, 04:50 AM But anyway, far out.
Davecam48 July 10th, 2012, 07:15 PM When I lived in NSW my shop was opposite a photographer's place, and at night you could see the light from his UV curing lights in his ceiling. All was well until his hydroponic system used in conjunction with his curing system sprung a leak and flooded his house.
To quote Effie....."most embarrasment!"
jpbturbo July 24th, 2012, 05:17 PM No hydroponics around here Dave.
I do have bunch of moss growing on the roof though.
They were tearing down an old movie theater on campus today and when I went by to take some pictures of the destruction I noticed that there was a 14" delta bandsaw still in the front lobby.
I asked around and was told that all interested parties had already removed anything of value from the theater and that I was welcome to grab it if I wanted it.
Here is the theater as it stood right before I grabbed the saw,
http://jpbturbo.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/old-center-theater.jpg
The saw itself is a bit rusty on the top of the table but should clean up well.
On a more serious note, I've got to take my little buddy over to Wake Forest tomorrow for a doctors consultation to see if he needs surgery for a hernia that he had when he was a few months old that has returned recently.
http://jpbturbo.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/ambrose-fp.jpg
Ambrose is 3.5 years old and quite excited about taking a trip with daddy to go see the doctor.
Daddy is a nervous wreck.
Keep us both in your thoughts and prayers.

sjohnbruton July 24th, 2012, 06:40 PM Keep us both in your thoughts and prayers.

Barncaster July 24th, 2012, 06:43 PM He'll be fine Josh. No worries. The healing rate of these little people is amazing! Remember, he's relying on you to be the strong one.
Rob
Jupiter July 25th, 2012, 11:36 PM My 6-year-old had a hernia operation when she was about 4. The procedure was simple, she healed up quick, and now there's nothing left but an inch-long scar to remember it by. It'll be fine. :-)
LightninMike July 26th, 2012, 12:52 AM I was born with a triple hernia that they didn't find for a couple months.... They just thought i was a "cantankerous" baby....
He will be fine, the hardest part will be keeping him still while he heals up
nosmo July 26th, 2012, 05:13 AM I'm sure you would rather that had happened to Jar-Jar, but it is what it is. Best wishes to you both. It will all be fine.

Personally, I think that IS what happend to Jar Jar, and that is why we haven't seen him in a while...
New baby and moving, sounds like a cover up to me....
JK  Josh, I hope all goes well, and everyone is healthy.
jpbturbo September 1st, 2012, 09:55 AM We've had some excitement around here.
Little buddy was supposed to go in for surgery a week ago but because he had a cold it was postponed.
Then on Tuesday night he started complaining that his tummy hurt.
His hernia was incarcerated which just means that it was stuck out and we couldn't get it to reduce.
So I took him to the ER over in Boone and they gave him some morphine to try to get him to relax but that didn't work.
So around 12:30am we were driving down to the Wake Forest hospital in Winston-Salem where he had been scheduled to have the surgery.
After being there a couple of hours the doctors were able to get the hernia to reduce(pop back inside) and we were transfered to a regular room for a few hours before being released so I could drive the two of us back up the mountain.
It's about a 2.5 hour drive from Winston-Salem back to our house so we go back around 3pm on wednesday.
Ambrose was scheduled for surgery on friday so Wednesday night I went out shopping so that we would have food in the house for the rest of the weekend.
Thursday was fairly normal day at work but I ended up not getting to bed until around midnight which was too bad because I had to get up at 2am friday morning to get ready to head down to Winston-Salem by 6am.
The surgery went well and we were back home by lunchtime friday.
Little buddy is in some pain from his incision but his pain medicine seems to be doing it's job as long as he doesn't move around too much.
By the time I got to sleep last night I had only slept about 12.5 hours in the past 90.
I still haven't quite decided what's going to happen to Jar Jar.
I'll get back out to the new shop one of these days...
Jupiter September 1st, 2012, 10:09 AM Glad to hear it went well! :-)

Nice score on the bandsaw. Now that's luck - sort of like dumpster diving without a dumpster. Excellent - post a pic of before and after cleanup.

Jar-Jar doesn't contain any metal parts so any of the rest of the bladed tools are still a possibility.

kwerk January 19th, 2013, 06:34 PM Oooo, side insertion! (Quiet, Rick.).
Haven't seen that in a long while. I got a side insertion jig somewhere but for my last 5 guitars I've used black maire which is as hard as ebony. Side insertion not an option with that stuff.

I think the first thread I ever read on Tele Home Depot was Gil's Double Esquire thread.
It absolutely blew my mind and was the reason I decided to give building a shot.
Seeing how he pressed them in from the side made me want to try it.
It was probably a little easier than it should have been due to my saws kerf being a little wide.
I think I'll take a sharpening stone to the edge of the teeth and then measure it until I get the right width before I slot another neck.
It was however really really easy.
In a relatively soft wood like maple I have a hard time believing that hammering them in could be any easier.
Maybe from the top with an arbor press.
That Black Maire that you've been using is really gorgeous stuff.
It's even more cool that it's one of your native woods.

The fret pusher is made out of half of a 3M rubber sanding block with a groove cut in the bottom and a small bolt pushed through a hole drilled in one side. The bolt has a flat spot filed on one side to push on the fret.
I need to add some masking tape to the bottom of the sanding block as the black rubber can leave little marks on the maple if I'm not careful.
I have all sorts of stuff planned in my head for the final video.
We'll just have to see what I can work out.

Recommend you replace that fuse with a 5 Amp slow-blo, Rob. I'll send you a new Hall-effect valve that will magnetically uncouple your visual cortex processor from the liquid waste integrator. Jeesh! jpbturbo February 11th, 2013, 11:03 PM Well, the tax refund hit the bank account this morning so during lunch I did a little craigslisting for a drill press.
I was able to find a craftsman radial drill press over in Bristol so I went and picked it up after work.
I'll have to make a stand for it in my shop but I've already got some drawers and stuff from an old desk so I think i'll make a cabinet for it to sit on.
I've also picked up the stuff to make a router lift inside another cabinet that I pulled out of the furniture dumpster last saturday when I dropped off the trash.
This saturday I grabbed another small vanity that was all oak plywood and a large desktop sort of thing that was some nice birch plywood so I think I've got all the lumber I need for the lift and new router table top.

I've sort of had my eye on Matthias tilting router lift for some time.
I really want something that is going to stay square with the top.
One of the reasons I sold my old Skil router and table was that the height mechanism and clamp would often leave the bit a degree or so off from vertical.
Once I get the new stuff in place I think I'll do a shop tour thread.
Everything is crammed into an 8x16 mini-barn.

R. Stratenstein April 22nd, 2013, 12:07 AM I know--you can have Darth Paul show up and strangle Jar Jar with the crotch of a Flying Vee. Or the Vee of a flying crotch. Or something, just off Jarjar, willya?
jpbturbo April 23rd, 2013, 09:10 AM but will that thread be as poplar as this one? :lol:That made my day.
Jupiter April 24th, 2013, 09:34 AM You know, things may have gone too far to off JarJar now. I mean, we've built it up so much, and poor Josh is gonna have to come up with something we haven't already thought of.
I'm starting to worry about poor little Gonk....
Barncaster April 24th, 2013, 12:19 PM Do you think that Gonk and the Queen have something going on ???????? It's only a matter of time before Josh finds the Poloroids and posts them. A reasonable way to forget about Jar Jar I think. :-)

I envision Jar-jar getting halved by a laser when center-lining the neck!
Jupiter April 24th, 2013, 11:26 PM I'm thinking acetone.

These puns are great.
Last night, instead of working on the rebel bass I made an oversized bone nut for an old yamaha acoustic and turned it into a lap steel.
Don't worry, it was one of the plywood topped models and already had a repaired neck crack.
Did I mention that it was a bone nut?
That stuff smells disgusting!
I also found a chunk of 3/8" thick perspex at the dump on Saturday.
It's big enough to get two body templates out of as well as some smaller stuff like a nice wide router base, a dremel router base, LP headstock template, etc...
