Classic Player 60's Strat

I've been thinkin' about gettin' one of these Classic Player 60's Strats. I have 3 strats, and all of them have the skinny "v" 50's neck profile. I was fine with it until I got this baja tele with it's big fat neck and now I'm thinkin' that I'd really dig a fat neck strat.

I've read a lot of glowing reviews on this guitar. I'm wondering if anyone out there has one or has played one, and if so, what are some opinions?

Thanks,

Funk

I have one, and it's my only strat and it rules. It's had some minor tweaking since I bought it, and now it's the best strat in the world (for me anyway...)

It has been a while since I played one of them, so I might not remember correctly, But I don't remember the CP60s being a particularly big neck.

It'll be bigger than the V-Necks especially in the first postion. But not like the Baja. I don't know how much they changed. I had a 06 CV-60 and the neck was on the thin side. I been fooling with a 2011 CV-50 now and its about the same and my US Deluxe C-Shape. So they may be a bit more like the US C-shape now. See if you can play new one.

Definatly not a SRV, RC or Beck thickness though.

I haven't played one of them, and I reallyu don't have access to one to try out. No fender dealers around me, so I'll have to go with one of the mail order companies. Thats why I wanted some feedback from this forum to see what others thought.

I had heard that they had a fairly large neck. Maybe it was that they have a slightly bigger radius then other strats. I would like a little chunkiness in the neck. I dunno..wish I could find one to play and try out.

Yeah, cp60 neck is definitely thinner than the Baja, but not super thin. The cp50 probably has a neck closer to the Baja's.

Out of my three fender/squier guitars my cp60 has the "skinniest" neck, my hwy 1 tele's the fattest and my Jazzmaster has the widest fingerboard.

I don't feel that any of them have a skinny neck but maybe I'm not too sensitive about these things. I didn't notice that the baja tele had a really fat neck when I tried one out a couple years ago.

I wouldn't mind trying out only the Japanese version.

I always liked the 50s style "V" shaped neck on the strats. So I've always gotten strats with that neck profile. I decided about a year ago that I wanted a tele, and I ordered the Baja becuase it was supposed to have the soft "V" neck profile, and that's what I wanted. When I got the Baja, the neck to me was nothing like a "V"...it was more of a "U"...felt really chunky in my hand. I didn't think I would like it at all and was prepared to send it back...but, the more I played it, the more I liked it. I discoverd that it was so much easier to play then my skinny necked strats. It does have a 9.5 inch radius, verses the 7.25 inch radius of my strats..that may be the difference, but it still feels totally different then the "V"s on my strats. I love the feel of it is all I know. I rarely play my strats now, and I'm missing it. So I must get a new strat! :)

I just read that the CP 60's strat has a 12 inch radius. The CP 50s has the 9.5 inch radius. But the 50s have maple fretboards, and I'm really wanting a rosewood board. I 'm looking into other strats with 9.5" necks, but I really like the look of the CP 60s and I keep seeing glowing reviews for it. Too bad I cant just get one of every model... heh

Thanks,

Mine is my favourite guitar out of 10. Always thought Strats were a bit boring but I got one of these and it's my go to guitar for most things. Love the neck, the 12" radius and the CS 69 pickups. Mine is Sonic Blue and I love it.

In my opinion radius makes a big difference.

I'm no fan of vintage radius. I learned to play on LP/335-style guitars and vintage fender radius feels weird to me.

I played all strats I could find at my local guitar store, MIAs MIMs MIJs etc and the CP 60 was the best. There were other strats that were a joy to play but this one had by far the best sound. To be honest I had to work quite a bit with the set up but once I was past that this guitar definitely became a keeper.

I must confess that my tele's collecting dust at the moment:oops:. My strat and jazzmaster gets me all the sounds I need and they are much more comfortable to play.

I put a deposit on one in the exact same colour as Yammer's yesterday. Beautiful looking guitar, the fit and finish were top-shelf, and the sound was amazing. The set-up was quite good, the frets were well dressed. The neck is a little thinner than I'd prefer, bt it was a little deeper feeling that the MIA Std that was there. The CP60 played and sounded better through the Blues Dlx than the MIA Std, Godin Session, Godin Montreal (apples/oranges), and a PRS I tried. I'd say it was damned close to the MIA Dlx. Overall, a beauty of a guitar.

Yea there nice, fellow has an 07 Blue I almost bought here. The necks are straight, the 12 radius you either like it or don't. I played a SRV with the same radius style neck. Now if the put a thicker neck like the SRV on the CP-60 I'd be on it.

They do sound good though, and the QC on some are exceptional, weight etc. I like the 2-point Trem with the vintage style block also.

To me, it's one of those strats that just feels right in every way.

Why dont you just put a warmoth neck on one of the 3 strats you already have? You can then get exact chunkiness and radius you prefer.

I've also have heard he Kenny Wayne Shepherd strat has a vey chunky neck.

I've actually been considering that.....I've looked into it a bit...I keep going back and forth with it...I wish I could get a new neck for all my strats...AND get the CP60s...and several other models....theres so many guitars and so little time...and money... :o)

I have a sunburst one..really like it except for the pickup phase configuration...the 60's model which they are..don't and didn't have the middle PU out of phase with the other two PUPS in position 2 and 4...so you never can get rid of the 60 cycle hum...I changed mine to Lindy Frailins...sweet.

Its an incredibly good Stratocaster, I highly recommended it, has a lovely vintage sound too but the neck is not at all fat in any kind of way.
