My MJT tele body and neck is arriving this week. I have purchased all the hardware, as well as a SD neck humbucker and Jerry Donahue bridge pickup. The only thing missing is pots, caps and wiring. I admit, this is an area that I have little knowledge in.

I have been reading like a fiend trying to put together a list of things to take to my tech, but I'd like to get your take on what would work best. Keep in mind I want to keep it simple - no S1, 5-way, push pull rocket launchers etc. I'm looking for a simple 3-way using this control switch, that volume and tone pot, this brand capacitor rated at.....cloth wire... . Also, not to contradict myself, the best wiring scheme for a neck bucker/bridge single coil. I have read a lot about tone only to the bridge and that seems to make sense.

I know that these parts are in general pretty cheap, so go ahead a list the best of each. Not looking to save a few pennies, because going cheap here probably would only save me pennies.

Thanks guys!

Why don't you have your tech source the parts for you? You'll likely get a better price and your tech can advise you on what choices are going to sound best to your ears, based on your amp, your effects, how and what you play, and can probably swap out some different choices if the first guess doesn't get the sound you want.

Any decent tech will have a stock on hand of everything needed.

If your tech will be doing the install, i'm sure he'll be able to handle the shopping when you tell him what you're after.

Good choice on the Jerry Donahue, I've got one paired with a Lollar Firebird neck pup and it is awesome, you'll love it!

Wow, that just makes too much sense. I guess I just wanted to go in with a particular plan and have it executed, but I have a great guy and I'm sure he'll have the perfect solution.

Big fan of Lollars. Have them in my Strat. The Firebird was on my list, but I wanted to keep cost down for the initial build. I felt the Duncans would be a great pair at a decent price.

I love the Donahue pickup too. I have one paired with a '59 and love all the tones I get from that guitar.

One of my pet peeves as a tech when someone thinks they need to do all the leg work before they bring a project to me. About half the time they get it wrong, and I'm always searching for gentle ways to say "Why didn't you ask me first? That's what I'm here for."
