Anyone ever used a Gibson Les Paul Standard Double Cutaway bass? Pros? Cons? There must be a reason we don't see too many of them out there.

Are you talking about the Les Paul Junior DC (http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Bass/Gibson-USA/LP-Junior-DC-Bass.aspx)? It's a limited run, maybe only 400, so you're never going to see a lot of them around.

My partner in a bass forum owns one and likes it. More here (http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=5925.0).

No, I was thinking more of the 24-fret model. The Les Paul Junior has a 21-fret neck.

The link that fidopunk gave us was regarding the Pelham blue LP bass. If I remember correctly, only the LP Junior came in the Pelham blue. I could be wrong though.

I had heard a bunch of good things about the 24-fret model and was wondering if anybody here had any experience with them.

I have two Gibson basses (not an LP though). I find them to be more aesthetically pleasing than sonically pleasing. Although I haven't played the LP you're interested in-- just a quick caveat, I'm biased against short scale basses, but I do like the sound of an EB-3.

That's what I was talking about too. It's the only doublecut bass in Gibson's current lineup with the Les Paul name.

Are you talking about this Les Paul Doublecut (pdf) (http://www.gibson.com/Files/USA_PDFs/Data_LP_DblCut_bass.pdf)? That's a long scale 24-fret model but it was a limited run from about 2005-2006. The same body style was reintroduced as the Les Paul Money Bass in 2007 as part of Gibson's guitar of the week program. That was also a limited run. The TRC had a big dollar sign. This version sold poorly and were blown out at $599 by a couple of online stores.

At least a couple of guys at the Outpost own these, IIRC they like them just fine. But there were well under 1000 made so unless they reintroduce it, you're never going to see many around.
