tonedreamer March 6th, 2012, 08:33 PM can't believe what the man can do with an acoustic!! When Van Halen was in his prime, at the top of the charts, they asked him how it felt to be the best guitar player in the world? his response was.. "I don't know, why don't you ask Tommy Emmanuel" Listen to the chimes at the beginning of somewhere over the rainbow. crazy!
Crazy John March 6th, 2012, 08:38 PM Tommy Emmanuel has got to be the greatest guitar player on this Earth today hands down !

I absolutely agree! he's deffinitely a freak of nature! his timing is jaw dropping perfect. God definitely filled up his talent bag!

And very under rated.
HOBBSTER01 March 7th, 2012, 08:30 PM Can't argue with anyone here.
JDRNoPro April 6th, 2012, 11:35 PM Had the great opportunity to see him in concert last year (from front row seat, no less). and it was even more incredible than I anticipated. A real bonus was him playing with his brother, who's also damn good! A particularly entertaining number had them both flying fingerpicking - but one fretting and the other picking each other's guitars - perfectly.
Tommy played a great electric set too on a Tele (and his brother on a strat) but his acoustic prowess is.........well, otherworldly to me.
Seems like a really genuine and humble man that truly enjoys what he does and performing for others to enjoy.
phoenixash April 6th, 2012, 11:56 PM Being from Aus I have been to many a gig to see Tommy in the early days and have witnessed a few gigs with Tommy and his brother Phil playing together who also is no slouch on the gat but I way prefer his early days when he rocked with his Tele jaw dropping stuff.

Chiogtr4x April 7th, 2012, 11:36 AM Tommy is great- I started a similar thread here a few months back as I had read interviews with, or references to him various times in Guitar Player mag articles over the recent years, but never heard his music- Then, upon hearing, I had the same reaction as everyone one else-Blown Away!, not only by his talent as a player, but also as a charismatic entertainer and teacher...fantastic musician!
Sean65 April 7th, 2012, 03:22 PM I'd like to listen to more of his music, can anyone recommend any particular albums? I notice on iTunes that his most popular albums seem to be live albums. Which of his studio albums would you recommend?
Cheers
Sean

Love Tommy's playing and won't argue with anyone calling him the greatest guitarist in the world.
That said, I think that quote might be apocryphal. The same story is told about Jimi Hendrix getting asked that same question (on the Tonight Show) and saying "Why don't you ask Phil Keaggy?"
Great story but that one's probably not true either.

THE THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER...No doubt the best gtr player at this time .I saw him twice and will go every time he"s nearby. My wife came once and was amazed(it takes alot to impress her,she hears gtr players all day)I tried to learn those waterfall harmonics at the begining of rainbow.....still trying..perhaps will be forever! You should also check out Frank Vignola(also no bum with a gtr.)
W4rthog April 25th, 2012, 10:22 PM I don't think it's his best record, but The Day Finger Pickers Took Over The World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_Finger_Pickers_Took_Over_The_World), his collaboration with Chet Atkins, is worth a listen to hear Tommy playing alongside his ultimate guitar hero of all time. Two of the greats.

Love the sound Tommy gets on that old Kalamazoo (apparently given to him by a fan). Was lucky enuff to drop into a free seminar, at the spur of the moment that he put on at a music store in the late 90's. Really nice guy... generously shared his approach to music and playing in general. He sure has alot of energy. He's been touring constantly all over the world for along time.
Swang on,
TwangBilly May 1st, 2012, 04:06 AM Yes! God sent Tommy Emanuel to earth to bring us the sounds of heaven! He plays several times a year at a venue about 40 miles from me, and like a fool I have not seen him live, YET! I shall correct this at the first opportunity!
soulman969 May 1st, 2012, 04:30 AM I've never heard a better solo guitarist in my lifetime. What do you put in the water there "Down Under"?
W4rthog May 2nd, 2012, 12:16 AM Whatever they're putting in the water doesn't seemed to have worked for me :(
garytelecastor May 2nd, 2012, 12:22 AM I placed this on here once before and I'ma doin' it agin.
